All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST FOR SOCCER FIELD/IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Fowler to allow immaculate Conception School the use of the area between ballfields #3 and #4, Monday thru Friday until November 1, 1987. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/RON RAVELING APPRECIATION DINNER COMMITTEE Permission for the use of the hall had previously been given by phone survey so it only required formal action by members. Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic to allow the Ron Ravelin9 Appreciation Dinner Committee the use of the hall, kitchen and LaBelle Lounge area on Thursday, October 29, 1987 with fee bein9 waived. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST OSTRANDER BLDG. AND HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS HOCKEY BACKERS Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic to allow the Columbia Heights Hockey Backers the use of the Ostrander Building on October 7th and 8th for a rummage sale and Wednesday, November 4, 1987 the use of the hall and kitchen for a spaghetti dinner with the fee being waived. All ayes, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS BOCCE BALL COURTS A memo from Karen Moeller, Senior Citizen Coordinator, concerning the Bocce Ball Courts Was included in the agenda. Mr. Salsbury informed the Board that although it was approved by the Park Board this past summer it would not be placed in the budget until next year. CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES SEPTEMBER 23, 1987 PAGE 2 SIGN JOHN P. MURZYN HALL A copy of the specifications and bids were handed out to the Board members. Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic to recommend to the City Council to award the bid to Crosstown Sign for $9,890. Roll call Starcevic, Fowler - aye, Murzyn - nay. Motion passed. SECURITY GUARD FOR HALL Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Fowler to amend the Management Plan to read: "The security guard sha]l be scheduled from one (1) hour after liquor has begun to be served unti] the building is cleared by the leasee. A minimum payment of sixty (60) dollars shall be required. The present rate for the security is $12.00 per hour." All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST DRINKING FOUNTAIN LA BELLE PARK A request was received from Marilyn McCallum at 962 - 42½ Ave. regarding the placing, of a drinking fountain at LaBelle Park. The Board requested Mr. Jolly to furnish the members with additional information regarding the cost before making a decision. CHAIRMAN ELECTION Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Fowler to nominate Bill Hollom as Chairman. All ayes, motion carried. DAMAGE DEPOSIT FEE Mr. Salsbury asked the members if they wanted to request a damage deposit from groups that use the hall without a fee. Motion by Murzyn to request a damage deposit. Motion died from lack of second. After further discussion, motion by Fowler, seconded by Sta~cevic that we do not require a damage deposit for groups for whom they waive the fee. Roll call: aye- Fower, Starcevic, Nay - Murzyn. Motion carried. REPORTS Murzyn requested the City Forester, Donald Jolly, check a tree that was marked as a diseased elm and get back to him about the outcome. Fowler stated that the lighting of the tennis courts at Prestemon Park had been a low priority item in the budget and requested staff to recheck on the priority list as stated by the Board. Goranson informed the members that it was the last night for Mike Kiley to work as custodian at the hall. She also informed them of the wage increase given the janitors and custodians. Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Fowler to adjourn. All ayes motion carried. ' Nancy French, Park Secretary
