All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. APPRECIATION PLAQUE/BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA Hollom showed the members a plaque from the Boy Scouts of America that he accepted on behalf of the Park Board. The plaque was'given in appreciation for the use of John Po Murzyn Halt. REQUEST PICNIC TABLE/PRESTEMON PARK Harvey andl Irene Sunt attended the meeting to request a picnic table at Prestemon Park. Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Fowler to install two picnic tables at Prestemon Park. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/THE YOUNG OF HEART-SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Motion by Petkmff,.se¢onded by Fowler to allow the Young of Heart group the use of the hall and kitchen on Tuesday', July 14, 1987 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for their ndoor picnic with the fee~.waived. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HUSET PARK/COLUMBiA HEIGHTS CITY EMPLOYEES Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Starcevic to reserve Huset Park and Huset //5 bal lfields for the annual picnic on Sunday, August 9, 1987 from t2:O0 noon thru 5 p.m. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/STEVE HADTRATH MEMORIAL COMMITTEE Motion by Fowler, seconded b~ Starcevic to reserve the main hall, LaBelle Loun9e and kitchen for the Annual Steve Hadtrath Scholarship Fund Christmas party on December 4, 1987 with the fee waived. However, the security fee will ramaim intact, All ayes, motion carried, CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES JUNE24,. 1987 PAGE 2 OLD BUSINESS JOHN P. MURZYN HALL SIGN Murzyn ~nformed the Board members that the Lion's Club has given the money to the Park Board to install a sign at the hall, Salsbury stated that the specifications will be drawn up and the sign should be installed within the next few months. NEW BUSINESS YOUTH DROP IN CENTER A letter from Dick Lawrence was read stating that the Columbia Heights Concerned for Youth Group had no objection to allow[n§ other groups using the Youth Center for their activities because they would not be using the room until October or November. Their only request was that a different lock be installed on the inner office door as they have valuable equipment stored there. Mr. Lawrence also requested that a key be issued to John Tiggas as he has their permission to use the equipment. Motion by Petkoff, seconded 6y Starcevic that the' lock be changed on the door. However, ]t was requested that Mr. Salsbury inform Mr. Lawrence that the Park Department will not take any responsibility for the safety of the equipment. All ayes, motion carried. REPORTS A copy of a City Council letter showing their approval for the Columbia Heights Fire Department to have beer at Sullivan Park at the Annual Pig Roast on September 12, 1987. This was for information only. REQUEST SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT/SPORTSCENTRAL Steve Boylan, Gary Westman and Greg Schendel attended the meeting to request softball fields for a tournament on July 18th and 19th. The team has been invited to play in a National Tournament, representing Columbia Heights, in Muncie, Indiana and in order to raise money for the expenses involved they would like the use of the fields free of charge. The Boa.rd was told that it would cost $5,000 to $6,000 to send a. team. The Board suggested they go the the Columbia Heights Boosters or Jaycees and ask them ,to sponsor the tournament. After much discussion, motion by Petkoff, seconded by Fowler to allow them the use of the fields providing they make.a "good good effort" to get a sponsor and if that is not possible~the Board will make the fields available at no cost. However, the damage deposit of $200. and liability insurance coverage will still be in effect. All ayes~ motion carried. REQUEST JAYCEES TO SELL PULL TABS/MURZYN HALL A copy of a City Council letter showing the Councils approval to allow the Columbia Heights Jaycees the right to sell pull tabs at John P. Murzyn Hall on July 4, ]987 with the Park Board approval was read. The.use of the hall for July 4th was previously given to the Columbia Heights Boosters for the purpose of Bingo, food and beverage. After much discussion, a motion by Petkoff, seconded by Fowler to grant permission to the Jaycees subject tO the Boosters approval after they are informed that the Leasee is responsible for all liability. All ayes, motion carried. CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES JUNE 24, 1987 PAGE 3 Starcevic requested that the crosswalk at 38th and Stinson Boulevard be restripped. Salsbury stated that the stripping is currently being done and the crosswalk in questions is scheduled to be stripped. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Murzyn to adjourn.
