Totten, Debra Getty, Amber .Getty., Margaret Kl.imek The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairperson Jo-Anne Jernatl at 6:30 p.m.. READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by FoWler, seconded by R'ita Petkoff"to approve the minutes of ~che April 23, i986 meeting in wri'ting. All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF TttE BILLS Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Fowler that the bills ~ei.pa:id..o.u~.df.'the :' proper fundsr. All ayes~ motion carried. REQUEST TO W1THDRAW A REQUEST ~FOR RESERVATION FROM JPM/I.C. C'HURCH Motion by Petkoff,.secon~ed by F~wler to'resci'nd' the previous motion to reserve the hall for the Tekakwitha Circle at Immaculate Conception Church on February 21, 1987. All ayes, motion car, ried. _ ... OLD BUSINESS · PRESTEMON PARK ~ALLFIELDS The members advanced in the agenda.tO Old Business because of the Prestemon Park residents in attendance. The problems at Prestemon Park during ball season are 'again sur~aci'ng. The residents want to know'legally what they can dQ. to preveqt.the problems they are having with cars parking in stree(, spitting in the street, loud and abusive language and bal.ls denting cars. Petkoff stated that it was up to the umpires to control the langufge, on the ballfield. The residents-showed p.ictures of cars parked in the street to validate their claim. Motion b.y ~etkoff, seconded by Fowler to refer the parking situation to the Traffic Commission for their consideration at their next .meeting, All ayes, motion carried. A permanent situation woutd be to move the ballfie]d from the N.E corner to the S.E. cOrner of Prastemon Park. The cost of the move will ~e approximately $35,000 according to the Engineering Department and could not be considered until after the 1987 budget . SHERMAN BUSCHOW Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Fowler to grant permission to the People's Church for a Sacred C~nce~.t on. August. 10~ 19.86. frpm 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Huset Bandshell. There will be no ~harge for this'~rental. All ayes, motion carried. The members re.quested Sai.sb. ury to study the Shelter Building tO see if it could be more serviceable by opening {he back. Also to check and see if 'a cement platform could be installed in front of the .Band Shelter. REQUEST HUSET BALLFIELD AND JEFFERSON BUILDING/N.E.I. STUDENT COUNCIL~BRIAN TILTON Motion by FoWler, seconded by Starcevic to reserve' Huset #5 and the Jefferson' Building to the Student Counqil.at Northwes.tern E~e~tronics ,nstitute for a picnic on June 20, 1'986 or in case. Of 'rain July ll~ ~986 from 9:0~ a.m. to 5 p.m. The motion is made with the fo]lowing conditions: l) Group cleans up the park following the event. 2). The group agrees to repair any damages created by the participants in the event. 3)..The group agrees to secure all equipment' and facilities .use.d by .~hem. 4) Al'l City and Park regulations are observed. HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION-DONALD HALLER Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic to grant permission to the Hockey Assoc. the use of a meeting, room .the second.~onday of every month at 7 p.m. from Jan. thru Dec. of 1987. .We wil'l also reserve the main hall for November 2, 1986, Friday, November 14, 1986, January 23, 1987 and Thursday, March 19, 1987. The rental fees for the above dates will be waived~ however, any security fee will remain intact. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST J.P.M. 'The replacement of the courts will not be done until after the completion of the parking lot area at J.P:M. Hall. it was requested by the members that the Park Secretary inform the petition signers of the courts that are available at the High School. PARK BENCHES/KEYES PARK A copy of a letter from Mayor Nawrocki to Mrs. Florence Glader informing her that the Park Department would be installing a park bench at Keyes Park was read and noted by the Board. REQUEST KEYES PARK/AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICE--!J. OF MN./PAT BRAATEN A letter re. questing the use of Keyes Park on June 23, 25, ~nd 27¢ t986 for a day camp was read. Motion by Petkoff, seconded by: Sta~cevic to deny the request on the dates requested. As this is the week of the Jamboree~ the Board requested alternate dates for the day camp. All ayes, motion carried. DEDICATION CEREMONY The Board. members decided to reschedule the Ded'ica:ti0n Ceremony to September 28, 1986. The minutes from the Dedication Ceremony were reviewed. Petkoff and Fowler have agreed in helping to pick out the furniture. Salsbury-stated that U.S. West is now in the process of installing a phone system at .j.P.M. Hatl. Jernall stated that if necessary.a.special meeting could be cat!ed in order to pick out the pictures for the walls or Petkoff and Murzyn could make the decision. Satsbury stated he will approach the Oontractor again regarding the plaque for the hall. The Park Secretary is in charge of ordering a cake for the ceremony'. FLAG POLE ,J.P.M. The regional American Legion Club has requested permi'ssion to be responsible for the upkeep of the flag and pole in front of J.P.M. Hall. They have also requested permission to add a plaque for the rededication of the hall. Motion by Fowler, seconded b,/ Starcevic to honor their request. At1 ayes, motion carried. NAME ROOMS IN HALL. After some discussion regarding the appropriate names for the meeting rooms at the halt, the members agreed on naming the rooms after the Parks in the City. Because of St'reet construction, the parking 'at the' Silver Lake Beach Will probal~ly be a problem. The Columbia Heights Lions have agreed to donate money for l~he purchase of new ki'tchen'equipment.for J.P.M. Hall. RECREATION ~ COMMUNITY EDUCATION REPORT Fowler reported that the Recreation Department has reserved "Jonah and the Whales" for the 4th of July Celebration.
