HomeMy WebLinkAboutJune 19, 1985CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES JUNE 19, 1985 ROLL CALL Members present: William Hollom, JoAnn Jernall, James Fowler, Jon Starcevic Rita Petkoff, Fred Salsbury, Director Public Works/City Engineer Member absent: John Murzyn READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by Jernall, seconded by Fowier that the reading of the minutes from the May 15 and June 6 meetings be dispensed with and accepted as written. All ay~Bs, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. LETTERS AND REQUESTS LIQUOR PERMITS Motion by Jernall, seconded by Starcevic that the liquor permit be granted according to the rules and. regulations set forth by the Park Board to: Clarence Koltes, 5434 Rhode Island, No., Mpls , MN All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST COLUMBIA HEIGHTS JAYCEE WOMEN FOR JPM PARKING LOT Motion by Jernall, seconded by Starcevic to ailow the Jaycee Women the use of the rear parking lot of Murzyn Hall from t0:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 22nd for the Annual Trike-a-ThOn. All ayes, motion carried. APPOINTMENT OF PARK BOARD REPR. ON RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION Jo-Ann Jernall has withdrawn her request to remove her name as a Park Board member'. However, she has requested her name be removed as the representative to the Recreation Commission. Salsbury has sent Jim Fowler's name to the City Manager for recommendation to the City Council. OLD BUSINESS The request forms for the 1986 budget previously handed out were given to ' Salsbury at this time. The requests will be compiled and be available at the next meeting. CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES JUNE 19, 1985 PAGE 2 MAINTENANCE SULLIVAN PARK The Board reviewed a letter sent to Land O'Lakes as a reminder of their obligation to maintain' the portion of Sullivan Lake Park that is their responsibility. It was requested of Salsbury to feel them out as far as the Park Department taking over the maintenance and charging Land O' Lakes accordingly. Salsbury informed the Board' that several complaints had been received about the mowing at Sullivan and he wanted them to be aware that part of the agreement is to leave a portion of the Park in the natural state. REQUEST LUTHERAN BROTHERHOOD/SULLIVAN LAKE PARK A letter from Molly McHale requesting the use of Sullivan Park was read. It was requested the Park Secretary explain that the Parks are on a 1st come 1st serve basis and are not reserved. REQUEST SOFTBALL FIELD/NORTHWESTERN ELECTRONICS INSTITUTE A letter was received r~uestinq the softball field at Gauvitte on Tuesday, Wednesday a~d Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30. Motion by Jernall, by Fowler to allow N.E.I. the use of the fields, All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HUSET BANDSHELL/PEOPLES CHURCH Motion by Fowler, seconded by Jernall to allow the Peoples Church the use of the Bandshell on Sunday, July 21st, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a concert. All ayes, motion carried. REVIEW JOHN P. MURZYN HALL Salsbury stated he had a meeting with Mr. Watten and the following items were discussed: 1) 2 options on a drive up (unloading) - either relocate road or instal] a pull-off to park and unload. 2) Kitchen planner is nearing completion with a plan. 3) Structural engineer has worked in the mezzanine in the floor plan. 4) Bar plan is underway. Salsbury reviewed with the members a recently passed ordinance pertaining to Single Event Club Beer License and how it will effect events in the hall and parks. Staff - The recently hired Park Planner, Denny Smith has started working for parks and Recreation Department. Rich Kudak is retiring July 28th. The Board requested Salsbury to purchase a plaque and present it to Rich at the July meeting. Recreation Commission Representative ~ Jernall reported that the Staff is very happy with the plans for the remodeling of the building.
