PARK BOARD
MINUTES
APRIL t7, 1985
ROLL CALL
Members present:
William Hollom, JoAnn Jernall, James Fowler, John Murzyn,
Rita Petkoff, don Starcevic, Fred Salsbury, Director

READING OF THE MINUTES
Motion by Jernall, seconded by Petkoff that the reading of the minutes from
the March 20th and April 3rd 1985 meetings be dispensed with and accepted
as written. All ayes, motion carried.
PAYMENT OF THE BILLS
Motion by Jerna]l, seconded by Fowler that the bills be paid out of the
proper funds. All ayes, motion carried.
PRESTEMON BALLFIELD
Petkoff moved to reconsider the motion made at the March 20, 1985 meeting
regulatin9 tournament play at Prestemon Park~ Seconded by Fowler. Ayes,
Petkoff, Fowler, Murzyn, S~arcevic. Nay, Jernall. Motion passed by majority.
Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Murzyn to allow tournament play at Prestemon
Park. Ayes, Petkoff, Fowler, Murzyn, Starcevic. Nay, Jernall. Motion
passed by majority.
LIQUOR PERMITS
Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Jernall that the liquor permit be granted
accordin9 to the rules and regulations set forth by the Park Board to:
Percy Mickle, 4001 63rd Ave. N., Brooktyn Center, MN 55429. All ayes,
motion carried.
REQUEST KEYES PARK/ANOKA COUNTY EXTENSION SERVICE
A letter requesting the use of Keyes Park for a "Day CampTM for the months of
July and August was read. However, Salsbury reported that after talking to
Jon Krueger, Anoka County Service, the camp is now going to run only (2) days
August 22nd and 23rd. Motion by Jernall, seconded by Fowler to allow the use
of Keyes Park for a Day Camp on August 22nd and 23rd. All ayes, motion
carried. An amendment to the motion was added pending an agreement between the
City of Columbia Heights and Anoka County Extension Service.

REQUEST JPM HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS FIRE FIGHTERS AUXILIARY
Motion by Jernall, seconded by Fowler to reserve the hall for a Graft show on
Sunday, November 17, 1985 with the fee being waived. All ayes, motion carried.
REQUEST BALLFIELDS/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Jernall to reserve softball fields at Prestemon,
Keyes, and McKenna Park§ for the Columbia Heights Public Schools from 3:00 p.m.
to 5:00 p.m., except on game days when the hours may be extended to 6:00 p.m.
The motion is qualified, however, with the. stipulation that should the
Recreation Department need the area they will have to make other arrangements.
All ayes, motion carried.
PARK PLANNER
Salsbury informed the members that within the next couple weeks we~should
receive some definite information regarding the position of Park Planner. An
individual from Columbia Heights is interested in working for both the Park
Department and the Recreation Department.
PARK BUDGET
Hollom requested the members to furnish Salsbury with any ideas for the 1986
budget.
SKATING RINK
The members were furnished a report on the attendance at the skating rinks for
the 1984 and 1985 season. The Board felt that it showed a good trend in the
use of the rinks.
RECREATION COMMISSION REPRESENTATIVE
Nothing to report
MURZYN HALL PLAN
Dick Lawrence and Verl|n Vedders, representing the Drop In Center~ informed
the members that they have been having a tremendous response in the Center.
The last (2) nights the attendance has been 82 and 74 kids. They also stated
that they definitely need more room.
Tiggas stated that the Golden Agers had informed him that they do not need a
separate kitchen. Also, that they would not need a meeting room every day nor
probably not past 5:00 p.m.
Vern Watten showed the revised plans and after much discussion the Board was
tn general agreement that they approved the new plans.

Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Jerna]l to accept the new addition plans as
presented by Watten. All ayes, motion carried,
Motion by Jernall, seconded by Fowler to accept the remodeling plans as
presented by Watten. All ayes, motion carried, Ho]lorn requested Bocwinski
or Salsbury to inform the Mayor that the Board members are in agreement on
the plans and the project is to-go ahead.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by jernall, seconded by Fowler to adjourn. All ayes, motion carried.
