Fred Saisbury, Director Public Works/City Engineer Hitch DeMars, Park & Street Superintendent, Pau]ette Anderson Debbie Getty , Rita Petkoff READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by Jernall, seconded by Starcevic that.the reading of the minutes from the September ]9, ]984 meeting be dispensed with and accepted as written All ayes, motion carried. · PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Fowler, seconded by derna]l that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. LIQUOR PERMITS Motion by derna]l, seconded by Fowler that the liquor permits be granted according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Park Board to: Robert Davis, 3335 Fillmore St., Mp]s., MN; Katherine Askwith, 4425 University Ave., Apt ]O], Co]. Hgts., MN; Chris Hoppe, 636] Zane Ave. No. #303, Brooklyn Park, MN; Jack Bagley, 5311Malibu Drive, Edina, MN. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/JAYCEE WOMEN-SANTA'S CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL Motion by Fowler, seconded, by de.rnall to allow the Columbia Height's Jaycee Women the use of the halt on Tuesday, December ]8, ]984 from l]:OO a.m. to ]l:O0 p.m. with the fee being waived. Ail ayes, motion carried. THANK YOU/FRIENDS OF THE- LIBRARY A thank you note from the Friends of the Library for the use of the ha]] was read and noted by the Board. RETIREMENT LETTER/HITCH DEMARS A letter from Hitch DeMars informing the Board that as of November 30, 1984 he wilt be retiring. The Board expressed their appreciation for the many years of service to the City. CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES OCTOBER 17, 1984 PAGE 2 PRESTEMON PARK SKATING RINK Paulette Anderson and Debbie Getty (representing the P~estemon Park area) expressed their desire to have the skating rink opened. A petition from the area was also read. Salsbury stated that the approximate cost to open a rink would be $6,000. Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Jernall to open the Prestemon skating rink. All ayes,' motion carried. Ms. Anderson also expressed her appreciation to the. Board for the speedy removal of the "Eas~/ GliderI' (handicap playground equipment) from. Prestemon Park. REQUEST HALL/STEVE HADTRATH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER-DANCE/GARY PETERSON Motion by Fowler, seconded by Starcevic to allow the Steve Hadtrath Scholarship Committee the use of J.P. Murzyn Hall on Friday, November 30, 1984 with the fee .being waived. The security fee will reamin intact, however. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/M.A.G.I.C. CLUB/CHUCK'~ & SUE JONES-MALCOLM WATSON A letter from Ms. Jones requesting the hall from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday November 8, 1985 and Saturday, November 9, 1985 from 9:30 a.m. until ll:OO p.m. was read. Motion by Jernall, seconded by Starcevic to grant them the use of the hall on Friday from 8:00 p.m. to ll:O0 p.m. and Saturday from Noon to 11:00 p.m. for the normal fee. All ayes, motion carried. MURZYN HALL REMODELING Salsbury informed the Board that the City Counci] has committed themselves to remodeling the hall. Approximately $700,000 has been budgeted for 1985. The Board was informed of the meeting October 25th with the various groups that use the hall and the City Council to explain the plans and get their input. BUDGET REVIEW ~alsbury stated tb&t two items that were removed from the budget have been put back in, the drinking fountains and the snow blower. REQUEST RECREATION DEPARTMENT/SILVER LAKE BEACH AREA The requests received from the Recreation Department were read. The Board agreed to the possibility of installing some playground equipment for small children and the placement of trees for shade at the discre~i:on of the Park Superintendent and Public Works Director. DEPARTMENT REPORTS dernall reported that the Youth Drop In Center should be in operation next month DeMars reported that Ostrander Park playground, equipmen't is all in. Gauvitte Park is in the process of being installed. ApprOximately 60 trees are being planted in the Parks. The piece of handicapped playground equipment at Prestemon Park is being returned and we will be reimbursed for it. CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES OCTOBER 17, 1984 PAGE 3 PRESTEMON PARK BALLFIELD A short discussion was held regarding the moving of the ballfield at Prestemon~ Park. The Board felt the cost wou]d be astronomical. Mr. Getty will be in attendance at the November Park Board meeting to discuss the prob]ems.
