Salsbury, Director of Public Works/City Engineer Also present: Mitch DeMars, Park & Street Superintendent, Dick Lawrence READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by Starcevic, seconded by Fowler that the reading of the minutes from the December 21, 1983 meeting be dispensed with and accepted as written. All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Fowler, seconded by Petkoff that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS SECURITY GUARD JOHN P. MURZYN HALL Salsbury stated that due to the fact that Wayne's Protective Agency is no longer licensed to work security, we have been using Columbia Heights Police Officers. Ou~ C~ty Attorney has advised us not to use the Officers because of workman's compensation complications. A price of $6.50 an .hour as offered by Mr. Iver Beck of the Pinkerton Agency. Hollom stated that to his knowledge they were a very'reliable company. Jernall made a motion, seconded by Petkoff, that we make an agreement with the Pinkerton Agency. All ayes, motion carried. The contract would have to be approved by the City Council. REQUEST FOR JOHN P. MURZYN HALL Dick Lawrence came to the Board requesting the use of the basement for a drop in center for troubled youths. At the November meeting Ron Naegele and Gary Peterson also requested the basement for a couple of evenings a week for the same purpose. Lawrence stated that the center would be properly supervised. A motion by Jernall, seconded by Murzyn to allow the Boosters the use of storage rooms in basement as a drop in center. All ayes, motion carried. The Board thanked Mr. Lawrence for his effort. LETTERS & REQUESTS REQUEST FOR USE OF J.P.M. HALL - ANOKA COUNTY ASSOC. FOR RETARDED CITIZENS Motion by Jernall, seconded by Starcevic to allow this organization the use of the hall, with fee waived, on Sunday May 6, 1984 ~for a craft sale. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST FOR USE OFJ.P.M. HALL - THE CHUA LU KARATE ORGANIZATION Jernall made a motion to grant the nites that are available to the members at the time requested. Seconded by Petkoff. All ayes, motion carried. REPAIR OF JOHN P. MURZYN.iHALL CEILING At the special meeting held January 12, 1983 the Board voted to replace the existing ceiling tile with another type of tile and to. include a change in the perimeter lighting with the job, Roy Goranson, City Bldg. Inspector explained to the Board. that for 1) fire protection 2( sound level and 3) insulation; that 5/8 sheet rock with glued on tile would be a better way to do the cei, ling. A concern of Murzyn was if the'ceiling could hold that amount of weight. Petkoff asked if we could advertise on cable for volunteer help from a constructural engineer with regard to the weight of the.ceiling. Motion by Jernall, seconded by Fowler to obtain quotes for the main hall ceiling replacement. All ayes, motion carried. Salsbury requested the Park Board to consider recommending to the City Council the retention' of an architect to prepare plans and specifications for the repair and remodeling work at Murzyn Hall.' After a.short discussion, the following acti. on was taken: motion by Hurzyn, seconded by Jernall to recommend the City Council hire an architect for the improvements to John P. Murzyn Hall. All ayes, motion carried. REVIEW OF PARKS Salsbury stated that the last three years we have talked about master plans for the parks. A long range plan is desirable and Salsbury was requested to look for some professional park planning help. Salsbury is going to find out what the cost would be and report back to the Board in February. COLUHBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEETING JANUARY 18, 198~ PARK BOARD REPRESENTATIVE TO RECREATION COMMISSION Nothing to report. Jerna]l did state, however, that She would not be at the next meeting in February. DEPARTMENT REPORTS DeMars stated the hockey lines have now been insta, lled using a new process With tissue paper. The process is more efficient and less expensive than painting. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Jernall to adjourn, AIl ayes, motion carried.
