Salsbury Also Present: Mitch DeMars, Park & Street Superintendent; Chuck Vescio, representing Roger Dufault READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by Me]in, seconded by Petkoff that the reading of the minutes from the May 18, 1983, meeting be dispensed with and accepted as written. All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Metin that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS None to present. NEW BUSINESS BUDGET - REVIEW OF INFORMATION Salsbury explained that there have been adjustments made to the Budget since these particular copies were made and distributed to the Board members. The corrections will be made and new copies of the final budget will be given to the Board members. Salsbury pointed out to the Board that the proposed budget for Capital Improvements is quite large. He brought attention to the fact that this is because of the many essential improvements and repairs needed at Murzyn Hall. These improvements consist of the many items discussed by the Park Board at two previous meetings. It was suggested by Hollom that where these are itemized out on the budget, they should be put in priority order again. The Board members will assess the budget and present any suggestions they might have at the July meeting. PARK SIGNS It was brought up to the Board that the wading pools hours were changed from 10:OO AM - 8:30 PM, to 11:O0 AM - 7:00 PM. The main question - Does the Board recall making any formal motion to change the hours? It was discussed initially on March 17, 1981, but tabled and not discussed again. After further discussion, the Board agreed that the hours for the wading pools should'remain 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEETING JUNE 22, 1983 LETTERS & REQUESTS LIQUOR PERMITS Motion by Fowler, seconded by Petkoff that the liquor permits be granted, according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Park Boa~rd to: Stephen Johnson, 75 Rice Creek Way, Fridley; Mary Kent, 146 Craig Way, N.E., Minneapolis; Jill Amundson, 10607 Arrowhead Street, Coon Rapids; 9149 Queen Avenue South, Bloomington; 5538 Edgewater Blvd., ~inneapolis;, Ed Anderson, 4601 Washington Street N.E., Columbia Heights; Darold Sharer, 4200 Madison Street N.E., Columbia Heights. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST FOR USE OF HUSET #1 - JAPANESE BASEBALL EXHIBITION Chuck Vescio was at the meeting, representing Roger Dufault, to request the use of Huset #1, therefore also blocking the use of Huset #2 and #4, on Saturday, duly 23, 1983, for a baseball exhibition with the Japanese team. This request was for all day. There was some discussion by the Board explaining that there is a tournament scheduled for that weekend, and being as the Board granted this use to them earlier this year, that they have full use of all fields. There was a motion by Murzyn, seconded by Metin to grant this group permission to negotiate directly with the tournament director for that weekend to see if an acceptable solution can be arrived at. All ayes, motion carried. Mr. Vescio also requested use of the basement of Murzyn Hall on that evening in order to feed a potluck dinner to the Japanese team. It was agreed upon by the Board that the basement should be left open and unused on this date pending details with respect to the wedding reception that will be held upstairs that evening as to the number of chairs and tables being used. REQUEST FOR USE OF JPM HALL - ANOKA COUNTY ASSOC. FOR RETARDED CITIZENS Motion by Melin, seconded by Starcevic to grant this group's request for use of the JPM Hall on Sunday, November 20th and 27th for craft sales. Rental fees will be waived for these events. All ayes, motion carried. This group will also be notified that they cannot gain entrance to the hall until 12 Noon. REQUEST FOR LIQUOR IN SULLIVAN LAKE PARK - LAND O' LAKES, INC. Motion by Fowler, seconded by Petkoff to allow this group to bring in a keg of beer to Sullivan Lake Park on Tuesday, duly 26, 1983. All ayes, motion carried. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEETING JUNE 22, 1983 REQUEST FOR LIQUOR 1N SULLIVAN LAKE PARK - LAND 0~ LAKES, INC. (CONT.) This group was informed that they are expected to clean up after their event is through, otherwise they will be charged for labor if the City crews are required to clean the park and facilities. REQUEST FOR LIQUOR IN SULLIVAN LAKE PARK - AID ASSOCIATION FOR LUTHERANS Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Melin to grant this group permission to have beer in Sullivan Lake Park on August 20, 1983, for a family picnic. All ayes, motion carried. This group was also informed that they are expected to clean up after their event is through, otherwise they will be charged for labor if the City crews are required to clean the park and facilities. REQUEST FOR OUTDOOR CONCERT - LUCAS FAMILY Motion by Petkoff, seconded by Murzyn to grant this family permission to hold an outdoor concert for the public at Huset Park bandshe11. Alt ayes, motion carried. REPORTS PARK BOARD REPRESENTATIVE TO RECREATION COMMISSION Melin made note of the speaker and microphone system at the hall. Does not seem to work well all the time and should be checked. At this time Ho]lom made note of the new benches on the top of the hill at Huset #1. There were three installed, one being the bench donated by the Sportsmens Club. It was suggested that the asphalt underneath the benches be replaced by concrete before winter. _DEPARTMENT REPORT Salsbury informed the Board that the Jaycees have purchased two (2) 6-foot stainless steel tables for the hall kitchen. They wit1 be getting in touch with Salsbury when the tables arrive. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Melin, seconded by Petkoff to adjourn. All ayes, motion carried.
