HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 28, 1982COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 'PARK BOARD MEETING JANUARY 28, 1982 ROLL CALL Members Present: William Hollom, John Murzyn, Jori Starcevic, Jim Fowler, JoAnn Melin, Rite Petkoff, Tom Rejzer Also Present: Barb Schlict and Dorothy Pearson of the Columbia Heights Hockey Association, Gina Gustafson of Arone's Softball Team, Fredrick V. Salsbury, Public Works Director READING OF THE MINUTES ; Motion by Me]in, seconded by Fowler that the reading of the minutes from the December 16, 1981, meeting be dispensed with and accepted as written. A11 ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Fowler that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motion carried. INTRODUCTION OF RITA PETKOFF TO PARK BOARD At this time, Hollom 6~ficia]ly welcomed Rita Petkoff to the Board. With representatives present, the requests for permission to hold softball tournaments by two groups was now presented to the Board. REQUEST FOR SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT - COLUMBIA HEIGHTS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Motion by Melin, seconded by Murzyn to grant the Columbia Heights Hockey Association permission to hold a softball tournament on July 16, t7 & 18, 1982. The fee will be governed depending upon receipt of a letter from the president of the Hockey Association. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST FOR SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT - ARONE'S BAR Motion by Melin, seconded by Murzyn to grant Arone's Bar permission to hold a softball tournament on June 19 & 20, 1982 They will be charged the private rate. All ayes, motion carried.. OLD BUSINESS JOINT MEETING WITH RECREATION COMMISSION The Recreation Commission has within themselves, agreed upon February t0, 1982, as a date for the joint meeting with the Park Board. All Board members agreed upon this date als0. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEETING dANUARY 28, 1982 NEW BUSINESS SULLIVAN LAKE PICNIC SHELTER Discussion was held regarding a possible reservation system for the picnic shelte.r in Sullivan Lake Park. The genera. 1 concensus of the Board is to leave the park shelter on a first-come, first-served basis with no formal reservation system. Motion by Melin, seconded by Fowler to indicate to any asking parties that there is no reservation system for the shelter. All ayes, motion carried. At this point, Starcevic had to leave the meetin.g. POST & CABLE - HUSET ALLEY - WEST OF JEFFERSON Salsbury explained the problem of the ONE WAY alley now located west of Jefferson, south of 40th Avenue; one of the residents with a garage entrance off of the alley has difficulty entering and exiting his garage. The cable now bordering the alley catches on the bumper of his car. After discussion, motion was made by Melin, seconded by Petkoff not to remove the post and cable, but let the City make an effort to amend the situtation .in a cost-effective manner. All ayes, motion carried. LETTERS & REQUESTS LIQUOR PERMITS Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Fowler that the liquor permits be granted, according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Park Board, to the following: Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks, Duane Carlson, 5127 Girard Avenue North, Minneapolis; Duane Georgius, 3108 Edgemere Avenue N.E., Minneapolis; Stanley Bucksa, 4818 - 7th Street N.E., Columbia Heights; Unity Hospital c/o Susan Davis, 251 Cobbler Court, Circle Pines; Jeff Bird, 4550 - 6th Street N.E., Columbia Heights; Kimberly Pope, 2551 Oriole Lane, New Brighton. All' ayes, motion carried. REQUEST FOR USE OF SOFTBALL FIELDS - C.H.H.S. GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM Motion by Melin, seconded by Fowler to grant the C.H.H.S. Girls Softball Team use of Prestemon Park for their practices and games. All ayes, motion carried. USE OF SILVER'LAKE FoRSOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Rejzer will inform this gentleman to get in contact with Ramsey County, since the lake is under their jurisdiction. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS: PARK BOARD MEETING JANUARY 28, 1982 REPORTS PARK SUPERINTENDENT REPORT The crew has been working on snow removal for the past few days. The rinks were closed the weekend of the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of this month due to heavy snow. The crew started opening up rinks on Monday morning and finished four that day. The Park crew has also been helping out other departments with snow problems throughout the City. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Me]in, seconded by Murzyn to adjourn. All ayes, motion carried.
