MEETING
JANUARY 23, 1980
Meeting Called to Order by Chairman William Hollom.
ROLL CALL
Members Present: Walter Logacz, Gordon Schelde, William Hollom, John Murzyn,
doAnn Melin, and Thomas Rejzer
Members Absent: Mike Farrel]
Also Present: Fred Salsbury and Rich Kudak
READING OF THE MINUTES
Motion by Schelde, seconded by Melin to accept the minutes of December 12,
1979 as presented in writing and that the reading be dispensed with. All
ayes, motion carried.
PAYMENT OF THE BILLS
Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Schelde to pay all the bills according to their
proper funds with the deletion of O.M. Scott bill. All ayes, motion carried.
COLUMBIA HEIGHTS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION - TROPHY CASE
The Board recommednded Rejzer to find 'out exactly how many trophies will
be placed in'the "New" trophy case and bring that information to the next
meeting so that a decision can be made on the size and placement of the
new trophy case.
PARK PLANNING SERVICES
Rejzer reported that he received informal quotations from Brauer and
Assoc., Saunder Tahalden Assoc. and Landesign Inc. for the development
of Sullivan Lake, the redevelopment of Huset Park and the site plan
around Prestemon building. Rejzer recommended to the Board the in-
formal quotation from Brauer & Assoc. at the price of $4,050.00. They
are a very reputable firm and are able to meet'~he deadline of May 15,
1980 for completion of the plans. A motion was made by Schelde,
seconded by Me]in, to request the City Manager to recommend to the Mayor
and Ci:ty Council the quotation of Brauer & Assoc. on the basis of ]ow
responsible bid. All ayes, motion carried.
SCHOOL CLOSINGS - NELSON, SILVER LAKE AND COLUMBIA JR. HIGH
Discussion was held amongst the members about the future closing of three
Columbia Heights schools - Nelson, Silver Lake and Columbia Jr. High.
Opinions were expressed as to the degree of involvement by the Park Board
in this matter. Items discussed were use of buildings, use of property,
possible acquisitions and committee considerations. The Board was in
majority agreement that a reply be issued to the School Committee that
the Park Board is not interested in acquiring additional properties due
to present park space, facilities upkeep and budgetary demands.
LIQUOR PERMITS
Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Melin to grant the use of Murzyn Hall to the
following: Virgil Hallett, 1092 14th Ave. S.E. on Dec. 20, 1980, Dan
Sochko, 241 ll7th Ave. Blaine on Feb. 28, 1981 and Diane Tomala, 13455 Jefferson
St. Anoka on October 17, 1980 pending proper liability insurance. Roll Call:
Melin, Murzyn Logacz Hollom, aye and Schelde naye.
COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD

.EASTSIDE YMCA
Motion by Murzyn, seconded by Melin to grant the use of John P. Murzyn
Hall to the Eastside YMCA on March 25, 1980 from 6:30 - 8:30 P.M. for
a recognition night. All ayes, motion carried.
LEROY SIBELL - SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
Motion by Schelde, seconded by Murzyn to grant the use of Huset fields
3, 4, & 5 on July 19 & 20, 1980 for a softball tournament. The proceeds
from this tournament will go towards purchasing ice time and hockey
equipment. All ayes, motion carri:ed. The Board recommends that Mr.
Sibell have a letter written by the BOosters or Hockey Association
requesting that the fees be waived for the renting of the fields.
GENERAL MILLS
Motion by Uogacz, seconded by Scheide to deny the "Speci'al:Rate" request
from General Mills. All ayes, motion carried. The Board welcomes their
use of the hall at the set rates and policies.
ATTENDANCE & MAINTENANCE OF HOCKEY & SKATING RINKS
Rejzer reported that the attendance of the skating rinks is down this year
due to the unusual weather conditions. He also stated that the weather
has caused difficulties in providing the necessary maintenance needed to
keep pace with scheduled hockey league play.

Motion by Meiin, seconded by Sche]de to adjourn.
