ROLL CALL Members Present: Michael Farrell, Walter Logacz, John Murzyn, JoAnne Melin and William Hollom. Members Absent: Gordon Schelde, John Rak, and Tom Rejzer READING OF THE MINUTES Motion by Melin, seconded byLogacz that the minutes of August 16, 1978 be accepted as presented in writing and that the reading be dispensed with. All ayes, motion carried. BIDS ON PRESTEMON PARK BUILDING The City Council requested the Park Board to consider the bids on a proposed building for Prestemon Park. After a lengthy discussion on the proposed building a motion was made by Melin but it died for a lack of a second. Mr. Mike Farrell made the motion, seconded by Walter Logacz that the Park Board Budget has $35,000 for the construction of Prestemon Building. The lowest responsible bid was $64,300.00 by Leverette Weekes & Co. If the City Council has adequate funds available to make up the difference of $29,300.00, it is the Park Boards recommendation to accept the low responsible bid. Roll Call: JoAnn Melin naye; Mike Farrell, aye; Walter Logacz, aye; and William Hollom, aye~ motion carried. BIDS ON PRESTEMON BASKETBALL LIGHTI~ The City Council requested the Park Board to consider the bids on the pro- posed Prestemon Basketball Lighting. Motion by Farrell, seconded by Logacz, that the Board recommend to the City Council, that the bid for lighting the Prestemon Basketball court be awarded to the responsible bidder Heights Electric Company in the amount of $9,200.00. Roll Call: JoAnne Melin, naye; Walter Logacz, ayes Mike Farrell, ayes; and WilliamHollom, aye; motion carried. BASKETBALL BACKBOARDS FOR PRESTEMON PARK Motion by Melin, seconded by Farrell, to ratify the roll call of the Board members in awarding the low bid for basketball backboards for Prestemon Park to Hamele & Associates in the amount of $556.00. All ayes, motion carried. JAYCEES REQUESTED USE OF HUSET, KEYES, & PRESTEMON PARKS Motion by Melin, seconded by Farrell, to grant the Columbia Heights Jaycees use of the fields at Huset, Keyes and Prestemon Parks for their softball tournament on September 15, 16, & 17, 1978 and that the fees be waived and proper liability insurance to be secured. DON BUZZELLREQUEST REFUND Motion by Melin to refund Mr. Don Buzzell $175.00, his payment of an August 26, 1978, reservation. Motion dies for a lack of a second. Motion by Logacz, seconded byFarrell, to refund Don Buzzell $125.00 and retain $100.00 as their wasn't sufficient time to re-rent the Field House. All ayes, motion carried. Coneey 4908 Girard Ave. N. on August ~4, 1979, Karen DeBruin 3805 Jackson St. N.Ej on February 23, 1979, Mrs. Patricia Kelly 2809 Pelto! Ave. N.E. on September 28~ 1979 and to provide the Park Board with proper Liability Insurance. Ail ayes, motion carried. BEATRICE NORDINE REFUND Motion by Logacz, seconded by Farrell, to retain the required do~aapayment of $50.00 until February 24, 1979, and as of this date the money ~.~ll be refunded pending on if another reservation is received. 0thezu~ise, the downpayment will be retained. All ayes, motion carried. WAIVING OF LICENSES FEES Motion by Farrell, seconded by Melin, to"table to waiving 5f license fees until the September 20th meeting and that Marzym compile a list of Civic and Service Organizations in the boundaries of Columbia Heights° All ayes, motion carried. PROPOSED 1979 P2P~ BUDGET The Park Board will meet v~th the City Manager and City Council on Thursday, September 14, 1978, at 9:00 P.M. to discuss the Proposed 1979 Park Budget. The City Manager requests that the members try to attend the Budget Meeting of the Recreation and Community Services Commission beginning at 7:00 P.M. REPORTS Street Department prepared the base for the basketball court at Prestemon Park. Approximately $1,900.00 was sPent for materials, equipment and labor and the estimated cost for 2" asphalt top layer is $1,200.00. The Street Department has also prepared the basketball area at Southwe'st Park and is ready for a 2" asphalt mat. ADJOUP~NT Motion by Melin, seconded by Farre!l, that the meeting be adjourned.
