READING OF TRE MINUTES
Motion byFarrell, seconded by Me!in that the minutes of December 21, 1977 be accepted
as presented in writing and that the reading be dispensed with. Ail ayes, motion carried.
PAYMENT OF BILLS
Motion by Melin, seconded byFarre!l to pay all bills as presented in writing from their
proper funds. All ayes, motion carried.
INTRODUCTION OFW~LTERLOGACZ TO THE PARK BOARD
The Park Board welcomes Mr. Walter Logacz as the new City Council Representative to the
Park Board. The ~rk Board presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Sebe Heintz
for his past service to the Park BOard.
SULLIVAN LAKE PARK DEVELOP~2~r
Rejzer reported on the results from the City Council meeting where h~~ presente~ the
preliminary drawi~ of Sullivan Lake Park. It was suggested by the City Manager that
Rejzer present plans to the Park Board and to receive thair final recommendations and
then present them to the City Council in March. Rejzer reported that he is working on
alternate plans am~ drawings. It was recommended for any suggested plans for Sullivan
Lake Park be presented to the ParkBoard at the February 15, 1978 meeting.
HENNEPIN-ANOKA COK~rIES CONGREGATE DINING PROJECT
Colonel Martin of the Salvation Army and citizens from the Hennepin-Anoka Counties
Congregate Dining Project were present to meet with the Park Board On the recommendations
for the use of the Field House to the Dining Project. Melin reported on the various
events that use the Field House during the day, the majority of the events would not
interfere with the Dining Project. i Farrell questioned the significance of h~ving a
Dining Project in Columbia Heights when they have one in St. Anthony. Colonel Martin
stated~that there is a significant amount of seniors in this area to justify a Dining
Project in Co!umbda H eights. Murz~n recommended that the Congregate Dining Project
use the hall Tuesday through Thursday for a ~0 day trial period and that any previous
reservations will have priority over the Dining Project. Motion by Farrel!, seconded
by Logacz to recommend to the Mayor and City Council the use of the Field Ho~e to the
Congregate Dining Project, Tuesday through Thursday for a 30 day trial period. Ail
ayes, motion carried.
JEFFERSON STREET SIDEWALK
The Park Board recommended that theldiscussion on the sidewalk on Jefferson Street
be tabled until the February t5, t9~8 Park Board meeting.
PRESTEMON PARK BUILDING
The Park Board recommended that the discussion of the size of Prestemon Park building
be tabled Until the February 15, 1978 Park Board meeting.

REDEVELOPMENT OF MCKENNA PARK
Murzyn reported that plans and specifications will be presented to convert the baseball
field to a softball field at McKenna Park.
LETTERS AND REQUESTS
Motion byFarrell, seconded by Schelde for the Park Board to grant the Cub Scout Pack
1 69 the use of the Field House on January 25, 1978 for their Pinewood Derby and on
February 23, 1978 for their Blue and Gold Banquet. All ayes, motion carried.
Motion by Farrell, seconded by Schelde for the Park Board to grant the Cub Scout Pack
165 the use of the Field House on February 21, 1978 for their Bhe and Gold Banquet.
All ayes, motion carried.
Motion by Melin, seconded by Farrell to grant the Columbia Heights Jaycees the use of
the Field House on February 14, 1978 for their Wives Appreciation Night Dinner. All
ayes, motion carried.
Letter from Vern Rozmark requesting 3 WeekS vacation tO go to California as of June 12,
1978 was read and filed. Murzyn recommended that this request be granted.
Motion by Schelde, seconded by Farrell for the Park Board to grant the Columbia Heights
Jaycees the use of the Field House for a Teen Dance on March 10, 1978~~r All ayes, motion
carried.
Letter from Mr. Leslie Johnson on his retirement from the Park Board effective January
26, 1978 was read and filed. MtLrzyn reported on the good work performed by Leslie
Johnson while working for the Park Department.
Motion byFarrell, seconded byMelin to grant permission to Doug Steeve of Joe's Place
the use of Gauvitte Park rink for a broomball tournament on January 28 & 29 and
February 18 & 19, 1978with a $50.00 fee for each tournament and a $200.00 deposit to
cover vandalism expense for rink and park area and that it be refunded pending the
grounds are acceptable by the Park Superintendent. All ayes, motion carried.
Motion by Melin, seconded by Farrell to grant permission to Gene Witucki and the Central
Jr. High Girlts Softball the use of Huset, Keyes and McKenna Parks for practice
games from April 3 through May 28, 1978 with the exception that the Recreation Department
be notified of their schedule. All ayes, motion carried. The letter from Gene
Witucki was read and he stated his appreciation for the fin~ cooperation from the Park
employees and that the coaches were very pleased with the conditions 8~ the fields
for practices and games. This letter was placed on filed.
LIQUORPERM~TS
Motion by Farrel!, seconded by Melin that the Park Board grant the applications for
liquor for the following reservations pending proper insurance:
Thomas Smith 2831 Randolph St. N.E. on May 5, 1978; Sandy Zahorski 1627 36thAve. N.E.
on October 20, 1978; Virginia Blue 1108 128thAve. N.E. on July 8, 1978; Bonnie
Seiferth 670 23rd Ave. N.W. on 0ctober~8, 1978; John Gibas 5606 Bryant Ave. N. on
August 19, 1978; RicD~rd Cameron 2~6 69th Place N.E. on May 26, 1978; Jacob Barthold
1206 Bunker Lake Blvd. on October 21, 1978 and S.J. Verkennes 1024 90thAve. N.E. on
September 22, 1978. Ail ayes, motion carried.
SOUTHWEST PARK
Murzyn reported on the progress for Southwest Park building. Electrical work has to
be completed. The scheduled completion date is January 21, 1978. The City Council
approved the change order for exta materials cost for plastic domes. Murzyn reported
that he was not satisfied on the job that Sheehy Construction Company was doing.

HUSET PARK TENNIS COURTS
Murzyn recommended W.J. Sutherland[ and Associates Inc, to draw up plans and specifications
for tennis courts at Huset Park picnic area, Motion by Farrell, seconded by Melin
to recommend to the Mayor and City Council W.J. Sutherland and Associates !nc. be hired
to design plans and specifications for electrical and construction of two tennis
courts in the Huset Park picnic area. All ayes~ mStion carried.
INDOOR ICE ARENA
Mr. Walter Logac~ brought to the attention of the Park Board members an indoor ice arena
in the City df Columbia Heights,, A discussion was held ,and the members recommended
that Tom Rejzer visit a n~mber of arenas in our area and report back to the Park Board
of the cost involved for a multi-purpose facility, ~ktrzyn reported that Sta~e or
Federal funds may' be available forisuch a construction.
MATTING FOR WARMING HOUSES
Motion by Melin, seconded byFarrell to provide adequate quantities of matting for
warming house building. Ail ayes, motion carried.
TREE PLANTING DONATIONS
Murzyn reported on the donation from the Columbia Heights Jaycees for ~200.00 for tree
planting.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Logacz, seconded by Melin to adjourn. All ayes~ motion carried.
