ROLL CALL Members Present: Members Absent: John Rak, Michael Farrelt, WitliamHol!om, Jo,_un Melin, Gordon Schelde, John ¥~rzyn and Tom Rejzer. None Sebe Heintz, Also Present: McKenna Park Citizens READING OF THE~NUTE2 Motion by Me!in~, seconded by Hol!on to approve.the minutes of June 15, 1977 meeting as presented in writing and that the reading be dispensed with. All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF BILLS Motion by Hollom, seconded by Farrel! to pay all bills as presented in writing from their proper funds. ~ltayes, motion carried. . SOUTHk~ST P.~BUTLDING Motion by Holtom,-seconded by Melin that the Park Board accept the Roger Sheehy Company for the construction of SouthwestPark building at the reduction of $$,670.00 from the original bid of $43,676.00 and add the cost of digging for footings by the above contractor. Ail ayes~ motion carried. MCKENNA PAI:~K RESIDENTS Residents from t]ae McKenna Park area were present to discuss parking, wading pool noise, beer drinking and softball in the Park. The Park Board recommended that the McKenna residents obtain all recommendations in writing and then present them to the Park Board. RENAMING OF MINI PAE( Motion by Schelde, seconded by Melin that the Park Board members appreciate the input of the Columbia Heights Chamber of Commerce, but at this time the renaming of any of the parks is ~mder advisement but not under consideration and therefore the Park Board recommends that we do not accept the recommendation of the renaming of Mini Park to Wargo Court.~ SELLING OF PARK PROPERTY Motion by Melin, seconded by Hollom that the Park Board recommend to the Mayor and City Council to lease or sell five (5) feet of the park property located on Circle Terrace. All ayes, motion carried. BALLBFF ROOFING CO. Motion by Schelde, seconded by Farrellthat the Park Board recommends to take legal action against the Balluff Roofing Company. for water damage at the Columbia Heights Field House. All ayes~ motion carried. LABELLE PARK PATH LIGHTING Motion by Heints, seconded by Schelde to request John Murzyn to contact N.S.Po for decorative poles at two locations at LaBelle Park, one in the north corner and one in the west corner of the park. All ayes, motion carried. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES FOR AUGUST 4, 1977 CONT. BANDSTAND CARPETING Motion by Schelde, seconded by Melin that the Park Board recommend to the Mayor and City Council the low bid on carpeting for the bandstand in the amount of 'O $475.00 by Weiss Carpeting Company. All ayes, motm n carried. The other bidder, Ledwein Carpet Company was in the amount of $527.00. RE-DASHING OF THE FIELD HOUSE Motion by Schelde, seconded by Hollom that the Park Board recommend to the Mayor and City Council the low bid of Joe Nelson Stucco Company for the re-dashing of the Field House in the amount of $1,134.00. All ayes, motion carried. The other bidder, N.P. Roach Stucco was in the amount of $1,350.00. LETTERS AND REQUESTS. Motion by Schelde, seconded by Farrell that the Park Board send Ms. Linda Hansen, Director of Recreation, a letter telling her that the purpose of the basement is for the convenience of the public and that she shall have to move her offices from the youth center to an alternate area, as it is no longer a useful area for the citizens of Columbia Heights. All ayes, motion carried. Motion byHollom, seconded byMelin that the Park Board reply to~ColonelMartin~s request for the use of the Field House for Senior Citizen's lunch, and to deny this request on the basis of many conflicts with other activities held in the Field House. All ayes, motion carried. The letter from Prosecuting Attorney, Nick Casper, regarding the petition on John ~umphreywas read and placed on file. Motion by Farrell, seconded by Heintz that the Park Board grant the applications for liquor for the following reservations pending proper insurance: Nadine Svindal 6317 Utah Avenue North onApri! 18, 1978; Mark Lloyd 1355 Buchanan Place on April 15, 1978; Cynthi~ Resch 3801 Buchanan Street N.E. on November 4, 1977; Milton Stout 3555 Cleveland Street N.E. on September 23, 1977; Gary Jenson 4950 Fi~ore Street N.E..on August 5, 1978 and Brunis Miskowic 3952 5th Street N.E. on June 24, 1978. All ayes, motion carried. LABELLE PARK IMPROVEMENTS John Mnrzyn reported that the L~Belle Park improvements will be completed next week. SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Motion by Schelde, seconded by Farrell that the Park Board grant the use of Huset Park fields #~ & #5 to Mr. Ernie Nelson for a softball tournament on August 27 & 28~ 1977, requiring $50.00 for each field and a $50.00 deposit for clean-up of the fields and area, and that it be refunded pending the grounds ar~ acceptable by'the Park Superintendent. If Mr. Ernie Nelson wishes to sell beer at the tournament, he must apply for a beer license from the City Council and provide the City with proper liability insurance. Request for the fields is accepted, as long as. it doesn't interfere with Recreational football. All ayes, motion carried. HUSET PARK WADING POOL A letter was received from Mrs. Elroy Honl concerning a dog running through the Huset Park w~ding pool and children placing sand in the pool, this w~s read, discussed and placed on file.
