MINUTES
APRIL 20, 1977
Meeting called to order by William Hollom.

Members Present: JoAnn Melin, 8ebe Heintz, William Hollom, Michael Farrell, Gordon
Schelde, John Murzyn and Thomas Rejzer.
Members Absent: John Rak.
READING OF THE MINUTES
Motion by Heintz, seconded by Melin to approve the minutes of March 16, 1977 and the
special meeting of April 1, 1977 as presented in writing. All ayes motion carried.
PA~M~T OF BILLS
Motion by Farrell, seconded by Melin to pay all bills as presented in writing from their
proper funds. All ayes motion carried.
EAST SIDE YMCAREQUEST
Mr. Don Hall from the East side branahYMCAwas present to request the use of softball
fields on Friday nights. Motion by Farrell, seconded by Melin that the Park Board allow
the use of Prestemon Park on Friday night subject to change fromtthe Recreation Department
schedules. John Murzynwill take a telephone poll of the Park Board members and will
then contact Mr. Hall. All ayes motion carried.
SOUTHWEST BUILDING
Mr. Bob Diedrich was present to discuss the 3 proposed plans for Southwest Park building
Motion by Heintz, seconded by Melin to hire Bob Di~drich to draw up plans according
to plan #3 Mechanicsl, Electrical and Structural of which the Park Board approved not
to exceed 75 hours at $15.00 per hour. All ayes motion carrid.
JAYCEES REQUEST
Motion by Hollom, seconded by Heintz that the Park Board grant the use of the Huset
Park field #5 on Wednesday, fromM ay 5 to July 27, 1977 for the Columbia Heights Jaycees
softball practice. All ayes motion carried.
SHADE TREE PROGRAM
Mr. Tim Yantos was present to discuss the proposed thr~e alternate programs that could
be used for the Shade Tree Program-the following were proposed:
1. Using city forces for inspection and removal.
2. Contract out removal and use city forces to do inspections and to coordinate the
program.
3. To use the Assistant Park Superintenden as coordinating and inspecting with city
forces and either contract removal or removal by cityp~rsonnel.
A motion by Melin, seconded by Schelde that the Park Board recommend to the MaYOr
and City Council that the City Forester be the coordinator and the City of
Columbia Heighs contract out for tree removal. ~ll ayes motion carried.
BIDS FOR INSTALLATION OF PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
Murzyn reported that the bids for the installation of playground equipment will
be open on April 2~ 1977 at 2:00 p.m. at the City Hall.

ASSISTANT PARK SUPERINTENDENT
The Mayor and the G~ty Council approved the Park Board's request to hire Me. Thomas
Rejzer as Assistant Park Superintendent for $9500 per year slgrting salary and six
months probation.
SUN S~.TERS
Murzyn reported that the Mayor and City Council approved the bids for a sun shelter
at Silver Lake Beach from Miracle Recreation Equipment Co. for $1210.00.

Motion by Schetde, seconded by Farrel! that the Park 'Board grant the applications
for liquor for the foli~wing reservations pending proper insuranne:
Sue Caou~tte 4810 Camden Avenue North on M~y 20~ 1977~ Jean Roiko 6651 Jackson Street N.E.
on November 26~ 1977; .Earen Weyek 1490 47th Avenue M.E. on April 1, 1978 and
DaVid Erickson 6716 Channel Road on April 29, 1978. Ail ayes motion carried.

'LETTERS AND REQUESTS
Motion by Schelde, seconded byFarrel! that the Park Board approve Mr. Wes Olson's
request for the useoof the Huset Park tennis courts on the dates per letter provided that
one court be left open for public use. Al! ayes motion carried.
Motion by Sche!de, .seconded by Heintz that the Park Board approve the use of the
Huset Park field #3 to Pat Bjork and the Columbia Heights Women's Fast Pitch Team
on the dates available. Ail ayes motion carried.
Motion by Schetde, seconded by Farrell that the Park Board approve the use of the
fields for Mr. Joe Perzel on May 7&8, 1977 requiring $50.00 for each field and a
$~0.00 deposii for clean-up of the fields and arta and that it be refunded pending
the grounds are acceptable by the Park Superintendent. If beer is sold, they must
apply for a beer license from the City Council and provide the Pa!-k Board with proper
liability insurance. Ail ayes motion carried.
Motion by Farre!l~ seconded by Scheide that the Park Boardapprove the use of the
fields to i(-~rt softha~! team on Sunday nights on the dates per letter. Ail ayes
motionccarried.
Motion by Sche!de, seconded by Heintz that the Park Board approve the use of the Field
House to Columbia ~ieights Nelson School on May 26, 1977 for their Annual 6th Grade
Part~w~ith a $25.00 rental charge.
Motion by Heintz, seconded by Sche!de that the Park Board approve the use of the Field
House to the Coi~mbia Heights League of Women ~ters for their 3rd Jmnaual Bridge
Marathon from ]1:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 8, t977. Ail ayes motion
carried.
BAR AND t~TCHEN EQ~'IP~NT
Murzyn reported that the dirty and clean dishtable and the booster heater came in
and should be installed byFriday April!22, 1977.

Murzyn reported that the bases are ins~and that the poles will be erected on Monday.
ART STRUCTURE =
Murzyn r~ported that the material for the art structure was purchase at a total of
$335.00.
