READING OF JANU~P~Y 21st, 1976 MINUTES ~tion by Me!in, seconded by Hoiiom to approve the Minutes of January 21st~ 1976 Park Board Meeting as presented in writing~ and dispense with reading. Ail ayes, motion carried. PAYI~NT OF BILI~; ~.]] bills prese~ted w~e authorized for payment out of their proper funds by a motion from Heintz, seconded by Melin. ~].] ayes~ motion carried. WOMEN'S F~ST PITCH SOFTBALL Park Board members discussed the possibility of deferring the cost of use of fieZds for the Women's Softball. Tournament pending the requ~est of the Recreation Commision to sponsor the tou~m~ment and make request for fields. VOLLEYB~J~L COURTS Ron ~rgo and Doug Smith from Independent School District 13 were present at this meeting to discuss the possibility of installing two volleyball courts on land across from Highland Elementary. This property is om~ed by District 13 and the request ~,ould have to go through the School Board. The Park Board members indicated an interest in this being a jo~ut ven- ture with the Recreation Com~.~ssion, School Board and Park Board. Park Superintendent instructe~d to beet with the School Superintendent and Recreation Director on this matter. STRUCTURE DESIGN FOR LABELLE PARK The Park Board ~ms presented with diagrams for a possible structure at LaBelle Park by John ~a-zyn. Board members felt that neither design presented ~as suitable as they were not art~ork btZ a form of shelter designs, it was recommende~ that the Par~ Superintendent contact artist ~ss Brouse on a more suitable artwork. Dean Otterson's letter concerning the art st'~cture at La Belle Park was read and discussed. Park Board wnet on record in supporting a one developer concept and the park area as indicated on plums sho~n. The Board also felt that some park improvement by the developer should be incorporated into a total plan, The members indicated possible improvements like a buildings, wall~ays, hard surface, planti~ etc. The land which ~ms purchased from St. Timothy Church could be exchanged for other parcels of land and area around the lake. its the opinion of the Board that the St. Timothy Church be _nxormed of any develop- ment smd express their opinions. BIC ~ENTENIAL FLAG ~. ¥,~ke Farre~., representative on the Bicentenial Committee mentioned installation of a flag pole at FLexi Park and this was discussed ~y Board members. It ~.ms agreed that the best place ~ould be directly on the corner of 41 st and Central Avenue. LIQUOR PERMITS Hollom made a motion that the Park Board grant the liquor permits to the Tollo~ reser- vations: ~ita Betzler~ 10350 Yellow Pine~ Coon Rapids; Don Guzik, 4314 McLeod Streets Donald Jerome~ ~349 Kuox i~venue No.; Sue Spanie and Brad Guliickson, P.O. Box 1126/~ ~ls. 55411, seconded by Eelntz. .~aZhl ayes, motion carried. ~QUEST ~D LETTERS 1.~otion by Heintz, seconded by Farrell that the use of the Field House be granted to the Camp Fire Girls on April 2$th, 1976 from 9 a.m. to ~ p.m. for Adult Training. ~ ayes, motion carried. Farrell made a motion, seconded by Heintz to grant the use of the Field House to the l@s. Jaycees on Feb~ary 18, 1976. ~ll ayes, motion carried. REQUESTS AND LET. TERS Continued ~r. Hortenfield's request to rent the Field House for square dancing one night a week from $ to 10:30 p.m. during the months of June, July and August was read. This was tabled until the Park Superintendent can find out if other parties that previously rented the hall will be using it at this time. Motion by Heintz, s&conded by Farrell to grant the use of the Field House to the V.F.W., George Marko, on May 7, 1976 and that the fee be waived. All ayes, motion carried. l~tion by Heintz, seconded by Melin that the Park Board grant the Republicans the right to ~us.e the Field House for their caucus. All ayes, motion carried. Motion by Heintz s~conded by Hollom that the Lions Club's request be granted for use of the fields and Field House for the Jamboree~ and that the fee be waived. ~ ~ ayes, motion carried. sou ms Pm K ~r. Sebe Heintz brought forth before the membership when there are softball games at Southwest Park the ball sometimes is driven into the temuis court area and could be dau~erous to participants. The Board members suggested that ~rzyn check on prices of installing a fence there.- Southwest also needs a snow fence to prevent dr~_tmng into the alley. B~DSTAND The Park Board members discussed the urgency of completing the bandstand by ~y 1, 1976 so it will be available for Bicentennial activities. SEATING SEASON ~ Discussion was hel~ by Board members on the 1975-1976 Skating Season. The rinks were closed as of Feb~ary 18, 1976. The members felt that sores of the attendants did not perform their duties properly and that we should meet with the attendants before the season opening and discuss the problems and the duties o£ person attending the building. ~ti0n by Ho!tom, motion carried. secondeR byFarrell to adjourn the meeting.
