Members Present: William Hollom, Gordon Schelde, Sebe Heintz, John Rak and John Murzyn Members Absent: Michael Farrell and Marvin Super Motion by Gordon Schelde, and seconded by William Hollom that the reading of the minutes be accepted as presented in writing. All ayes. Motion by Sebe Heintz, seconded by William Hollom, that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes. INFORMAL BIDS ON FERTILIZER SPREADER We received four bids, one each from Century Power Equipment Company, Midway Tractor and Equipment Company, Coffeys' Equipment Company, and R. L. Gould and Company. The R. L. Gould and Company was low by $105.00 with a bid of $545.00. Motion by William Hollom, seconded by Gordon Schelde that the Park Board recommends to the City Council to award the bid for a Gandy 1010 A Fertilizer Spreader in the amount of $545.00 to the lowest:responsible bidder, R. L. Gould and Company. All ayes. INFORMAL BIDS ON AERATOR Two bids were opened for an Aerator, one from Long Lake Ford Tractor, Inc., in the amount of $830.00, and the other from F. L. Gould and Company in the amount of $750.00. Motion by Gordon Schelde, seconded by Sebe Heintz that the Park Board recommends to the City Council to award the bid for an Aerator in the amount of $750.00 to the lowest responsible bidder, R. L. Gould and Company. All ayes. INFORMAL BIDS FOR 10 FOOT AND 4 FOOT FENCING The following bids on fencing were received, Century Fence Company total bid $2,806.05, Viking Fence and Construction Company a total bid of $2,321.23 and Crown Iron Fence Company, total bid of $2,418.00. Motion by Gordon Schelde, seconded by William Hollom to recommend to the City Council that the bid be awarded to Viking Fence and Construction Company in the amohnt of $2,321.23. All ayes. INFORMAL BIDS ON FLAIL MOWER Four bids were received; one from Century Power Equipment for $795.00, Long Lake Ford Tractor Inc. for $789.00, A & M Industrial Tractors Inc. for $850.00 and Midway Tractor and Equipment Company for $730.00. Motion by Sebe Heintz, seconded by Gordon Schelde that the Park Board recommends to the City Council that the bid for a Flail Mower in the amount of $850.00 be awarded to A & M Industrial Tractors, Inc. All ayes. CAB, POWER BROOM AND TRUCK Park Superintendent, John Murzyn reported Columbia Metal Fabrication was awarded the bid on the Cab for $913~00, the Coffeys' Power Equipment Company was awarded the bid on the Power Broom, with a low bid of $1,155.OO. This equipment would be paid from the 1973 budget. G.M.C. was awarded the bid on a six passenger truck for the amount of $4,052.00 from the 1974 budget. MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF PARKS BY EMPLOYEES Discussion on designating the park employees for each park For three days per week and the balance of week could be distributed where'you have large projects. Superintendent John Murzyn, to prepare a list of names of regular and part time employees and send the list to the Board members.. 'Maintenance and Development of Parks by Employees will be placed on the agenda for December 19, 1973. The part time janitor was discussed, and the opinion of the members that we should either hire a commercial agency or a. part time man to do the custodial work. This would allow a regular man to be placed in the field. Gordon Schelde reported the f~)llowing recommendations from the Recreation Commission: 1. The Commission would like a speedskating track on Silver Lake, near the beach area. A suggestion was made that a probable rink could be constructed by #1 baseball diamond in Huset Park. John Murzyn was instructed to have the Engineers survey the area, whether a track can be flooded. Gordon Schelde suggested that we purchase vinyl liner for control of water on the outer edge of rink. 2. To divide basketball court at McKenna Park and have ten (10) foot and seven (7) foot high basketball backboards, so the younger generation may be ablve to use the courts. 3. At McKenna Park tennis courts; to construct a portable barrier for warm-ups or handball. 4. Remove mound on baseball field at McKenna Park and construct a softball field. 5. It was also recommended that we study on the use of picnic tables and sand under play areas. EDGEMOOR SKATING RINK Discussion on whether we should have a skating rink at Edgemoor. A neighbor complained at a City Council meeting that the water was coming in his basement from this rink. Motion by Sebe Heintz, seconded by Gordon Schelde that the Edgemoor Park rink be discontinued for th s coming season. All.ayes. SKATING RINK ATTENDANTS The Park Board members would'like to review the applications for their input and recommendations. Park Superintendent, John Murzyn, is to write up a job description and rules and regulations. TRAILER John Murzyn, Park Superintendent, reported that the City Council concurred with the Park Board recommendations to purchase a housetrailer for the Mini Park hockey rink. LETTERS AND REQUESTS Motion by Gordon Schelde, seconded by Sebe Heintz to table hiring a consultant for specifications and plans for proposed Mathaire Building until after January 1, 1974. LABELLE PARK There will be ground breaking ceremonies at LaBelle Park on December 8, 1973, starting at 1:O0 p.m. Park Board members were reminded to be present at this function. TRANSFERS Motion by Gordon Sche]de, seconded by Sebe Heintz to accept the transfers on the transfer sheet with one exception, that we remove $300.00 from line item 4755.22 and add to line item 4751.54A to cover the cost of fencing.
