SPECIAL MEETING
SEPTEMBER 12, 1973
Meeting called to order at 8:00 p.m. by chairman John Rak.
Members Present: Sebe Heintz, Oliver Jarvenpa, John Rak and John Murzyn
Members Absent: Gordon Schelde and Marvin Super
The fifty five-five (55) residents that were in attendance were informed
of the purpose of this meeting and to receive any input they may have
on the presentation of the preliminary plans of Prestemon Park. They
were also informed that the meeting was being recorded.
Mr. Bob Dill and Paul Fjare from Braurer and Associates.were introduced
and proceeded to take over the meeting. They showed slides of the
existing area of the proposed park and how it was going to be developed.
The park is divided into two areas, namely passive and active. After
their presentation of the plans, there was a questions and answer period
with many of the residents responding. Mr. Sebe Heintz told the audience
that the City Council allocated $14,500 to start development at this
park and also revenue sharing funds for landscaping and the balance
would be on the year-to-year basis from the Park budget.
The opening of 39th Avenue to McKinley Street was open for discussion,
but the majority of the people were very much opposed to it. A resident
remarked that they were told at a Council Meeting that this would not
be opened as a thoroughfare. Mr. Paul Fjare is going to check with the
Fire Department Chief and ask if the department would request that this
street be opened for fire protection.
After an hour and a half discussion, the majority of the residents were
well pleased and satisfied with the concept of the proposed park.
Motion by Sebe Heintz, seconded by William Hollom that the Park Board
recommendation is to accept the proposed preliminary plans as presented
at this meeting with the exception of opening 39th Avenue. All ayes,
