Developing donations include possibly, a scoreboard from Columbia Heights Lions Club
and a clock from Coca Cola Co.
Silver ?.~ke beach requires additional soundings. A 5" ice ~ger from Framk Novotny
will expedite this task. Barge carrying vacuum process will latter remove the bottom
~uck.
Motion by Frank Novotny, seconded by Marvin Super that until ail sewage fiowage into
Silver Lake discontinues, the Park Board will not recommend opening the Silver Lake beach
for swimming. All ~¥es.
Discussion centered around the Mathaire wa~ing pool plans preparations by city engineers
or professional l~adscape architect. In view of the satisfactory service which landscape
architect Robert Corwine has previously provided. Frank Novotny moved and seconded by
Don Lewis that the Park Board recommends the hiring of Mr. Corwine to plan the Nathaire
wading pool constr~ction details.. All ~ves.
The Board discussed the Mathaire vs McKenna area z~or second contemplated pool.
Rapidly expanding highland population Justifies the Mathatre selection, this will aisc
relieve pressure wimich will build up at the new Silver Lake beach. The Board ~iso recog-
nizes the McKer~ua ~eeds in this respect.
Motion by Super, seconded by Novotz~y that the Park Board ailos the ColEnbia Heights
Lions Club to use the Field House for a dinner sometime in February without charge. .All ~ves.
A letter from the Columbia Heights 4H Hustlers requested the use of the Field House
one evenir~g e~ch month, without charge if possible. Another 4H group, the Junior Chamber
of Commerce, the activities committe otc enjoy the above privilege. Also the youth cen-
ter is open each fb~esd~¥ and Thursday nights, and it is impossible to run ~everal of these
free meeting one night, due to conjestion complications. However, to help another valuable
training org~uiz~tion, Frank Novotn~v moved that John ~lurzyn schedule one night monthly
for the Columbia Heights 4H Husters meeting without charge, seconded by Super. All ayes,
A letter from the Bluebirds, ~thanked the Park Board for free use of the Field House on
their Snow Da~, 12--29-64. Incidently they purchased $20.00 worth of pop.
A letter plus descriptive literature from the Miracle Co. praised their expory paint
for fiber glass playground equipment at $7.00 per gallon. John ~.lurzyn is certain that he
can get a better buy from another .source.
Nurzyn reported that all skating rinks are operating at high speed, with canteen s~les
from i2-i%-64 to 1--17-65 were $2,229.10.
The Board discussed ice shaver which was constructed by the merchanics of the Street
Department. The ice shaver will cut down roughness on the ice thus reducing noes for exten-
sive ~looding.
The Board discussed an ~pparant increasing need for additional policing of ice rinks;
John ~iurzyn has recommended this for early consideration. Motion by Novotny seconded by
Super that Park Board and Recreation Department go half ~and half on the purchase of one Jet
~ster SigaEit. ~ll ayes. Motion~by Super seconded by Novotny, that the meeting be
