HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 16, 1999 City of Columbia Heights Park and Recreation Commission December 16, 1999 The meeting was called to order by Eileen Evans at 6:15 p.m. ROLL CALL Members present: Eileen Evans; Jerry Foss; Gary Mayer; Scott Niemeyer; Gary Peterson; Bob Ruettimann; Keith Windschitl, Recreation Director; Kevin Hansen, Public Works Director/City Engineer Members absent: Bruce Magnuson APPROVAL CONSENT AGENDA Motion by Foss, second by Niemeyer to approve the consent agenda. All ayes, motion carded. LETTERS AND REQUESTS There are no letters or requests at this time. OLD BUSINESS APPLICATION FOR DNR GRANT FUNDING FOR 2000 PARK IMPROVEMENTS The Public Works Director/City Engineer suggested that the public meeting for the DNR grant requests be held at our next regularly scheduled Park & Recreation Commission meeting. Motion by Foss, second by Mayer to hold the public meeting for the DNR grant requests at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 in the Keyes Room at Murzyn Hall. All ayes, motion carded. REFERENDUM ELECTION RESULTS Members discussed the results of the referendum election that took place on December 14, 1999. The were 1,732 no votes and 934 yes votes, which means we will not build a multi-use center. Members felt the issue should be brought up again at the next general election. Members recommended to the City Council that they consider putting the multi-use center and a complete park renovation project on the next general election, and continue to look for outside funding. NEW BUSINESS There is no new business at this time. PAGE TWO REPORTS RECREATION DIRECTOR PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER COMMISSION MEMBERS Members discussed ways that Murzyn Hall and the Recreation Department could generate more revenue. Staff is conducting a survey to see how our prices compare with those of other cities. At the next meeting, members will discuss fee waived usage and ways to increase revenue.
