REOUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS POLICE
A late request was received from Terence Nightingale, Explorer Post
Advisor, requesting the use of the main hall on April 7, 1993 from
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Explorer's are having a lecture and
demonstration for their group and Explorers from other cities.
Officer Nightingale also requested that the fee be waived.
Motion by Grady, second by Peterson to approve the use of the hall
on April 7, 1993 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. for the Columbia Heights
Police Explorer Post and to waive the fee for this event.
OLD BUSINESS
Peterson reported that he attended a Booster meeting to request
funds for Hilltop Park and at that particular meeting the Boosters
received requests for $123,000 and only had $7,000 to dispense.
However, they did table the request and felt that in a couple of
months the financial situation would be more favorable.
REPORTS
PARKS - SKATING RINK ATTENDANCE
Winson gave the members an attendance sheet for the skating rinks.
He stated that the average attendance had come down with the
exception of Huset Park. Although we did not have an attendant at
Hilltop Park skating rink the Supervisor did do daily spot checks.
It was reported that on 2 separate occasions there were 7 and 5
skaters at that park the balance of the days was 0 skaters. Ail
skating rinks will close on Monday, March 1 for the season.
Staff is requesting permission from the City Council to let bids
for some 1993 equipment. Replacement equipment will include a 4
wheel drive pick-up and tractor.
TOUR OF THE PARKS & SUMMER MEETINGS
A decision on a date to tour the parks and a decision on whether or
not to have the summer meetings held at the park buildings will be
made at the March meeting.
ANNUAL REPORT
Commission members commented on how the Recreation Department has
grown this past year. They also stated that the senior program has
flourished and is a result of the excellent leadership of Karen
Moeller.
