HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 27, 1991 CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION NOVEMBER 27, 1991 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bill Hollom at 6:30 p.me ROLL CALL Members present: Bill Hollom, Jim Fowler, Bob Ruettimann, Gary Peterson, John Murzyn, Patrick Grady, Mark Casey Director of Recreation, Fred Salsbury, Director of Public Works/City Engineer CONSENT AGENDA The following items were on the consent agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved to approve the minutes of the October 23, 1991 meeting. APPROVAL OF PAYMENT OF BILLS Moved to approve payment of the bills as listed from the proper funds. REQUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS POLICE-D.A.R.E CHRISTMAS PARTY Moved and seconded to approve the use of the main hall for the First Annual D.A.R.E. Benefit Christmas Party on Monday, December 23, 1991 from Noon to 5 p.m. with the fee waived. REQUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS POLICE-POLICE TRAINING Moved and seconded to approve the use of the main hall for police training on Tuesday, January 14, 1992 from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. with the fee waived. APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA Motion by Ruettimann, second by Fowler to approve the consent agenda as presented. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS SPECIAL OLYMPICS A letter received from Tom Shull and Dave Larson requesting the use of the hall for the annual Christmas Party of the Columbia Heights Special Olympics on Saturday, December 19, 1992 with the fee waived. Motion by Peterson, second by Fowler to approve the use of the hall for the Columbia Heights Special Olympics on Saturday, December 19, 1992 with fee waived. All ayes, motion carried. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION NOVEMBER 27, 1991 PAGE TWO REQUEST HALL/OAK HILL BAPTIST CHURCH David and Tammi Mild from Oak Hill Baptist Church sent a letter to the Commission requesting the use of the hall on Friday, February 21, 1992 for their winter banquet with the fee waived. Motion by Fowler, second by Murzyn to approve the request for the hall from Oak Hill Baptist Church for Friday, February 21, 1992 with the fee waived. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS GIRL SCOUT SERVICE UNIT A letter was received from Jeanette Burmeister requesting the use of the hall on Sunday, March 22, 1992 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. for a carnival for all the Girl Scouts and their families. They are also requesting that the fee be waived. Motion by ?eterson, second by Ruettimann approving the use of the hall for the Girl Scouts on Sunday, March 22, 1992 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. with the fee being waived. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST HALL/PALS The PALS program is requesting the use of the hall on Monday, February 10, 1992 for a Valentine Dance. They are also requesting that the fee be waived. Motion by Peterson, second by Murzyn to approve the PALS request for the use of the hall on Monday February 10, 1992 with the fee being waived. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST MATHAIRE/MCKENNA ROOMS/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS LIONS Kevin Doty, President of the Columbia Heights Lions, is requesting the use of the Mathaire/McKenna rooms for a "55 Alive Driving Class" on Wednesday and Thursday, March 18 and 19, 1992 with the fee waived. Motion by Peterson, second by Ruettimann approving the use of the Mathaire/McKenna rooms on March 18 and 19, 1992 for the "55 Alive Driving Class" with the fee being waived. All ayes, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS JOHN P. MURZYN HALL MANAGEMENT PLAN A copy of the Management Plan was given to each member for their review. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION NOVEMBER 27, 1991 PAGE THREE Motion by Ruettimann, second by Peterson to approve the main body, without appendixes, of the revised (1/2/1992) John P. Murzyn Hall Management Plan. All ayes, motion carried. Motion by Ruettimann, second by Peterson to approve Appendix B (rental rates) of the John P. Murzyn Hall Management Plan. All ayes, motion carried. REVIEW OF BUDGET Salsbury informed the Commission that there were three changes in the budget. 1. Funds were added to the Recreation budget for additional help with the programs. 2. Utility services were less than expected in the parks and Murzyn Hall. 3. $10,000 was added for seasonal workers. REPORTS Parks: Because of budget cuts 3 rinks (Southwest,Prestemon & LaBelle) will be closed for ice skating. Three trees were vandalized at Prestemon Park. Started decorating for Christmas at Wargo Court. stolen during the first week. 250 bulbs were The skating rink at Huset Park will not be completed as expected this year. Recreation: A coach's appreciation dinner will be held January 29, 1992. The basketball program's have started. The girl's program has double attendance from last year, along with adding one full traveling boys team. 2 football teams have won 1st place. attendance was over 400. The year-end banquet's Senior citizens are being entertained at a free dinner co-sponsored by the VFW Post #230 and the Columbia Heights Boosters on December 4, 1991.
