The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dick Petkoff at 6:30 pm.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Move to approve the minutes of the April 26, 1995 meeting.
APPROVAL PAYMENT OF BILLS
Move to approve payment of bills as listed from the proper funds.

Move to approve the use of the Gauvitte room for the Women of Today on
Wednesday, July 5, 1995from 7:00 to 10:00 pm with the fee being waived.
Move to approve the use of John P. Murzyn Hall on Sunday, Dec. ember. 31,
1995 for a New Ye.a.r's Eve Danc. e sponsored by the Columbia Hezghts
Athletic Boosters wzth the fee being waived for the hall. However, the

beer at Sullivan Lake Park on Sunday, July 9, 1995 and Sunday, July 23,
1995.
REQUEST HUSET PARK/NEI COI.I.F~GE OF TECHNOLOGY
Move to allow NEI College of Technology the use of Huset #4 and #5 and the
Jefferson Building on Friday, June 9, 1995from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
REQUEST SUI.LIVAN LAKE PARK/PAT ROSENBERG
Move to recommend to the City Council that they approve the serving of 3.2
beer at Sullivan Lake Park on Tuesday, June 20, 1995from 5:30 to 9:30 pm
for Pat Rosenberg of 3936 Reservoir Boulevard, Columbia Heights, MN.

Move to allow Jim Wajda the use of Huset #3, #4 and #5from 8:00 am to
8:00 pm on June lOth and June 11th with the tournament fees being
waived.

Motion by Evans, second by Grady to approve the consent agenda. All ayes,
motion carried.
REQUEST SENIOR/OSTRANDER ROOMS-EAST RIVER HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
A late request was received from Rebecca Brazys, President of the East
River Hockey Association, requesting permission to use the Senior-
Ostrander Rooms on Thursday, August 17, 1995from 5:30 to 9:00 pm and
Saturday, September 9, 1995 from 11:30 to 3:00 pm with the rental fee
being waived.
Motion by Ruettimann, second by Magnuson to approve the East River
Hockey Associations request to reserve the Senior-Ostrander Rooms on
Thursday, August 17, 1995from 5:30 to 9:00 pm and Saturday, September
9, 1995from 11:30 to 3:00 pm with the rental fee being waived. All ayes,
motion carried.

EDUCATION
A late request was received from the School District requesting an exercise
room at specific times from June through August of 1995.
Motion by Ruettimann, second by Evans to allow the Columbia Heights-
Fridley Community Education the use of an exercise room with the
Recreation Director to work out an agreement with the School District on
dates that we do not have a custodian on duty· All ayes, motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS
COLUMBIA I4IC. IGHTS BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
The Recreation Director met with Art Meadowcraft and discussed a number
of issues, although no substantial decisions were made they did come to an
understanding that the Recreation and the Association are going to work
together for the benefit of the outh The Association registrations do not
occur until fall and as the Recreation Director wdl meet w~th the
Association over the summer all financial issues should be instituted.
COLi]II~. IA I41C. IGHTS LIONS CLUB JAMBOREE FIREWORKS
The City Council has decided to use the money normally used for the 4th of
July Celebration and incorporate it into the Jamboree fireworks. It was
suggested that if any advertising is done for the fireworks it should
indicate that it is a ground base show so they won't expect an aerial
display.
SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BH.L FOR SUNDAY EVENTS
We have received a bill from the School District for approximately
$3,100.00. The billing was for 2 programs, one_f_o.r Sunday programs at the_
High School and one for Saturdays at Central Middle School. It was noted
that the Sunday's programs are sponsored by the Columbia Heights Athletic
Boosters which would account for approximately $1,500,00 of thc bill. The
Commission was also info,~,ied that the bill has not been paid.
The Recreation Director will be meeting with Larry Williams, School
District, regarding the bill and will inform the Commission on the outcome.

SCOUT TROOP #589 SPONSORSHIP
The certificate given the Commission from Girl Scout Troop #589 should be
considered as an honorary certificate -just to say thank you for letting
them use the Youth Room at Murzyn Hall.
NEW BUSINESS
In reviewing the improvements that have to be made at McKenna Park
uildinoa determination was made that the cost would be closer to
~0,00~ to replace the existing wood sliding walls wi. th block, insu_ late~ the
,~nner windows and replace the double door with a single door. Therejore,
st-~a~ is recommending-that the $10,000 budgeted for the rehabilitation for
McKenna Park Building be used to rehabilitate the Ostrander Park
Building. The needed improvements are: replace 3 doors, replace furnace,
replace fluorescent lights and possible replace windows.
Motion by Grady, second by Ruettimann to recommend to the City Council
that the money budgeted for the rehabilitation of the McKenna Park
Building be used to rehabilitate the Ostrander Park Building. All ayes,
motion carried. It was noted to be sure that the $20,000 is put in the 1996
budget for McKenna Park Building.
REPORTS

Currently working on the Joint Powers Agreement with the School
District.
Silver Lake Beach no longer has a Lifeguard on duty, therefore, do we
want the building open for restrooms and telephone or should we rent
a satellite and have a pay phone installed? It was suggested that the
Recreation Director request that information from the City Council.
Recreation Director will be attending a Community Core Value
meeting with the City of Fridley.
Kitchen floor, which was recently installed, is not acceptable, We are
holding check until it is repaired.
Men's handicap bathroom does not have a door - will have to be
repaired.

Parks:

McClanahan reported that a problem with goose droppings on the
walkway at LaBelle Park was recently brought to his attention.
LaBelle Park residents are requesting additional lighting along
pathway. It was suggested that individual home owners install their
own lights or security lighting be installed.
Pathways at LaBelle Park have been repaired.
Basketball Court rim at Huset east has been broken.
Working on lights for Quincy Street parking lot
Security lighting problems at Lomianki Park.
Sound system will be installed in Band Shell.
New score board is on order for Huset #3.
Playground equipment will be installed at Keyes Park.
