III. COLLECTION A. Placed a large paperback order for the Easy Juvenile section as a result of collection development in this area. Our EJ Paperback section gets a lot of use and had been depleted due to wear and tear and this order replaced lost or withdrawn items. B. Placed an order for expansion and updating of our Graphic Novels in the young adult section. This section is extremely popular with teenagers and the order I placed this month should put us in good standing for the summer circulation. C. Spanish language books (most bilingual) arrived this month and were added to the collection. The majority of purchases for this collection were donated either by the Friends of the Library or by Capstone Publishers. PROJECTS A. The final Grandparents Tea for the spring season is scheduled for May 21. Registration is full at this time. This program has been very successful as you can tell by the happy faces pictured below. B. Summer Reading Club preparations continue, though a bit off schedule. We anticipate having the flyers printed by the end of the first week in May (one week behind schedule). We are awaiting the teen incentives ordered from Janway. They were supposed to ship late April and should arrive by the first week in May. Special thanks to the volunteers and staff at the Rum Library for creating over 700 butterflies and mice for use on our summer bulletin board. A great team effort. C. The ILS PR campaign is moving into the public phase. The first public posters, signs, and bookmarks will be distributed beginning May 1. Bookmarks have also been produced to help staff notify patrons of changes in service as we move through the migration process. Efforts will continue through May following "Go Live" day as new badges, posters and signs will be produced along with a number of news releases. D. Preparations for Summer Funtime were completed this month. Registration begins May 9. E. We continue to collect applications for Tell Me More, the Children's Theatre Program. Claire Wilson from Neighborhood Bridges has made visits to local schools (CMS, CHHS, and ICS). The response at the schools has been good and she reports that she handed out 50 to 100 applications. Deadline for return of the applications is May 11. F. Preparations continue for American Girl (August 2005), TMM, Funtime/Storytime, Summer Reading Programs and the New ILS. IV. STAFF A. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge and Library Clerk, Joanne Peterson completed a data entry project for the ILS, which involved creating over 600 new entries. Cristy has nearly completed the bulletin board for our summer programs, began printing 1500 flyers to distribute at area schools, and printed the May Sampler. She has also created registration forms, tally sheets and a variety of other print materials for the volunteer program and summer programs. Cristy also participated in ILS training-essential skills. Cristy has also been producing the final layout for the ILS Update (newsletter), which is distributed countywide. B. Kelly Olson, Library Clerk Typist, withdrew old editions of magazines, received training in ILS Circulation, and aided in the production of booklists to accompany TMM. She received three large book orders and linked books to existing records in the absence of Library Clerk, Jeanine Schmidt, so we could meet the April 29 deadline for addition of new materials prior to "Go Live" day. Kelly also participated on an ACL committee to produce instructions for off-line patron registration, which will go into effect the week of May 9. C. Pages in the Children's Department spent the month of April aiding in the withdrawal of magazines, the production of the bulletin board, processed new books including large order ofEJ Paperbacks, and received book donations. A number of the pages have also received training in ILS Essential Skills and Circulation.
