Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: March operational report DATE: March 31, 2005 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The coin-op copier required a service call 3/4. B. Honeywell changed the filters on the HV AC 3/14. They also performed routine maintenance 3/17 and discovered a problem with the West rooftop unit. They returned 3/18 to repair the faulty control board. II. COLLECTION A. 3 book orders were placed. B. 2 paperback orders were placed. C. Many items were taken from donations this month to be added to the collection. Excellent paperback donations were received from two separate people. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met 3/1 with five members present. B. The Dr. Seuss Celebration was held 3/2 in the Children's Department. C. The Adult Reading Program, "Hot reads for Cold Nights", ended 3/5. 160 readers participated. D. The Friends met 3/7 with 9 members in attendance. E. ECFE brought a group of Spanish-speaking parents and children to the Library 3/11 for a bilingual storytime. F. The Mad Hatter's Tea Party 3/12 was a rollicking success. Thanks to storyteller Dana Weigman and the Columbia Heights Seniors for all their assistance. G. Garfield Reading Club ended 3/24. H. The spring session of storytime started the week of 3/29. I. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 3/31. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The ILS project is proceeding on schedule. The Implementation Team met twice during the month to discuss policy issues and to choose a public relations theme. Work on the data conversion and hardware upgrade and replacement are also on schedule. B. From 3/8-3/18 SIRSI, the automation vendor, taught two weeks of classes to the first group of staff to be trained on the new ILS. Trainers for the rest of the staff participated in these sessions, which were held at the Northtown meeting room. Ten pc's have been set up there as a training lab. C. On 3/10 Aleksandr and Paul installed a firewall on the City's LAN at the Library so that the staffpc's can access the ACL WAN. They loaded the workflows client on three staff machines and everything ran correctly. D. The City network was upgraded 3/25. V. STAFF A. Becky attended numerous meetings concerning the ILS during the month. B. Becky, Jeanine, and Kelly attended SIRSI training 3/8-3/18. VI. FOUNDA TION A. The Foundation Board met 3/16 with five members present. Tom reported on the MRAC grant. Applications are now available to be picked up at the Library for the summer program. Members discussed the potential for a Christmas fundraiser at the Heights Theatre and will pursue a sponsor for the event. The project with the Columbia Heights Historical Society concerning sorting donated letters and photos was also discussed. VII. MISC A. Major projects: a. Submission of the annual report to the State. b. Wish List presentation to Friends. c. Discontinuing daily reference statistics d. City goals assignments (3) The Library received a donation from the Twin Cities Bookfair. Sponsored by the Midwest Bookhunters, the Bookfair is held annually at the State Fairgrounds and gives donations to five libraries each year from their proceeds. B.
