Contracts and cover letter have been forwarded to Rick from the library and the school district is preparing paperwork as well. B. I Love My Library Because…has produced some wonderful images and messages for the Columbia Heights Public Library. Samples of Valentine messages we received include: I love my library because it is my favorite way to escape, take out a book and get lost in a story while sitting in my favorite chair. I love my library because it gives me time to spend with my children, helping them grow up loving the library as much as I do. I love my library because they are always willing to lend you a helping hand and greet you with a smile. Thanks for serving the community. I love my library because they have books for free! I love my library because everything that interests me –my library finds! I love my library because it has mysteries and histories, craft ideas and recipes, DVD’s, videos and CD’s …all without fees. I love my library because of the staff. I suppose I could find good reading material elsewhere but I am treated with such warm (plus helpfulness) here that it is one of my favorite places. Sincere thanks and Happy Valentine’s Day. C. Reading Begins Early displays of booklists and brochures on the importance of reading at an early age have been well received. These materials were also used as a part of the outreach program that Family Literacy conducted earlier this month. D. Valentine’s Tea and Storytime was a huge success. Attended by 20 children and ten adults, the group enjoyed stories by Dana Weigman and tea provided courtesy of the Royal Tea Bags (three ladies from our Senior Center). The Mad Hatter’s Tea scheduled for March 12 is full. We are now taking registrations for April 23, Royalty Tea. st E. I have been assured that the Library has again been included in the 21 Century Grant application submitted by the school district this month. F. At the director’s request, I have accepted a position on the public relations committee with Anoka County to prepare for the arrival of the new integrated library system. Phase one of the PR program consisted of developing graphic images to accompany the program and developing news items for release in the staff newsletters. Copies of the newsletters are attached. Children’s Clerk, Kelly Olson did an outstanding job on the images and deserves a lot of credit. IV. STAFF A. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge created the Early Literacy display, established I Love My Library displays on both floors, and created an author of the month display. Cristy also printed the library’s newsletter, numerous booklists and forms, and filled in at the circulation desk for staff on leave. B. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson aided in the design and layout of the ILS update newsletter for ACL & COH, aided in the design of the AnoKat image for use in advertising the ILS new public catalog, aided the librarian in establishing six images for inclusion in future ILS newsletters. She sent and received two large book orders this month, received BWI paperback standing orders. Kelly also stepped in to do storytime to allow the librarian to attend an ILS meeting. C. Pages shifted the easy non-fiction section to allow for expansion, folded and cut brochures, completed the paperback weeding, and completed order cards. They also aided in the set up and take down of a wide number of programs. .
