I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The Fire Department conducted a walk-through inspection 2/3. Two items were noted: 1.)
an exit sign with burned out bulbs and 2.) a broken stair tread in the interior stairwell. The
exit sign bulbs have been replaced and Joanne obtained a quote to have the step repaired.
B. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floor 2/4. Scuffmarks and debris were present in the
room 2/7. Follow up with the cleaners is in process.
C. The windows were cleaned 2/7.
D. Fidelity Cleaners changed the cleaner assigned to the Library 2/8.
E. Orkin performed routine maintenance 2/16.
F. Schindler replaced a faulty fan in the elevator 2/16.
II. COLLECTION
A. The bindery picked up materials 2/2.
B. Three book orders were submitted.
C. Media orders submitted: DVD’s, CD’s, and videos.
D. The adult paperback order was placed.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Three new City employees toured the Library 2/1 as part of their City orientation.
B. The Library Board met 2/1 with five members present.
C. Four sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month.
D. Classes from Immaculate Conception School visited during their regularly scheduled times
the week of 2/7.
E. The Friends met 2/7 with six members present. Becky and Marsha presented the Wish List,
and members voted to purchase prizes for the Adult Reading Club, two juvenile reference
sets, adult audio books on cassette and cd, juvenile bi-lingual media materials, and three
additional acrylic bins for use with the slatwall display in the Children’s Department.
F. Becky met with a home school family 2/9 to talk about local history. The Columbia Heights
Historical Society archives housed in the Library provided wonderful photographs to
illustrate the answers to the questions they had in their study unit.
G. The Valentine tea 2/12 was a huge success. Kudos to storyteller Dana Weigman and Golden
Age Club members Pat Jindra and Noranda Anderson for their decorations and participation.
H. Marsha presented a program 2/15 at Columbia Heights High School on early literacy and
family literacy.
I. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools. 2/24.
J. Drop-in family storytime was held 2/25 with storyteller Dana Weigman.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Marsha and Carrie Braaten, Centennial Branch Librarian, presented a public relations plan
to the ILS Implementation Committee 2/17. The committee acted as a focus group and
voted on themes and graphics to be used in introducing the new system to the staff and the
patrons.
B. One of the circulation terminals in the Children’s Department went down 2/18. Al is
working on getting it back up and running.
C. Becky attended many ILS meetings during the month. Progress is on track with the schedule
and deadlines have been met. A “Meet the Trainer” conference call introduced the SIRSI
trainers to staff, and the in-house trainers met 2/23 at the training lab set up in Northtown’s
meeting room to work on scheduling. In-house training will begin in April.
V. STAFF
A. Marsha participated in the weekly conference call on the ILS 2/8 in Becky’s absence.

B. Marsha celebrated her 11 year as Children’s Librarian.
C. Becky attended the Library Operations Council meeting at the County 2/10.
D. Joanne conducted a walk through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 2/22.
E. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 2/24.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 2/16 with all members present. Potential dates for a retreat with
the Library Board were discussed. Tom presented an update on the MRAC grant, and Cliff
reported on the peanut project. A joint meeting with the Columbia Heights Historical
Society was planned for 2/28 at 7:00 p.m. in Murzyn Hall.
VII. MISC
A. Major projects

b. Annual report: State version
B. The first week-long MELSA crossover survey was a success. Staff responded well to
reporting online at the MELSA website.
C. Representative Barb Goodwin held a Town Meeting 2/19 in the Library’s Activity Room.
D. The City version of the Annual Report was submitted 2/18.
