FROM: Mary M. Kloss
SUBJECT: Operational Report, February 2005
DATE: February 28, 2005
I. PROGRAMS:
A. Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, February 7, 2005, at
1:00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. Becky presented the wish list, and the Friends voted
to fund seven of the nine items on the list. The items to be funded are: prizes for the
Adult Reading Program, two sets of children’s reference books, children’s bilingual
books and DVD’s, adult spoken word compact discs and audiocassettes, and bins for
audiocassette and CD storage. The book sale date is set for Thursday, June 9. At their
next meeting the Friends will decide on the date to set up the sale and also if they wish to
have a presale. Gloria Tarmann, the treasurer, will mail out renewal membership forms
to members not at the meeting. The Friends next meeting will be Monday, March 7, at
1:00 p.m.
B. At-Home Service: During February, Sandi Engquist delivered books and other library
items to two homebound patrons.
II. COLLECTION:
A. I completed weeding the adult audiocassette collection in preparation for the SIRSI
system. All remaining audiocassettes had their cases cleaned, repaired, or replaced.
III. PROEJCTS & GOALS:
A. Tax forms: Throughout the month, I maintained the tax form display, which has
experienced a high level of traffic. Even with all the signs I’ve posted, patrons still
continue to ask where the forms are located, and if we know which forms they need.
B. Book display: New and nearly new fiction is displayed as “Hot Reads for Cold Nights”
in both the adult reading room and on the lobby display panel. They have been
circulating very well.
C. Adult Reading Program: The Adult Reading Program has 148 participants. Participants
prefer this year’s entry form over last year’s. This year after they’ve read two books,
they write the book titles and their name and phone number on the entry form and place it
in the prize drawing box. Last year, they kept a reading record in which they listed all the
titles they read and received an entry form for each book listed. A “Hot Reads for Cold
Nights” coffee mug with a bag of Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies tucked inside is
the weekly prize. A mug and cookies are also awarded to the staff member who
registered the winning patron. The program continues until Saturday, March 5. A final
prize drawing will be held the following week.
D. Annual Report: I completed the data sheet for the 2004 annual report.
E. Supply Budget: On Excel, I set up the 2005 library supply budget and also completed the
final supply budget report for 2004.
F. Fidelity Cleaners: The woman responsible for cleaning the library has resigned, and a
substitute is being used until a replacement is found. The cleaning has been acceptable.
G. Volunteers: Volunteers donated 3 ½ hours this month delivering books to homebound
patrons and through the “Adopt-A-Shelf” program.
