I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Olson Plumbing replaced the inner workings of two toilets the week of 1/3 after the City’s
water meter reader discovered a leak.
B. Honeywell replaced an electronic control board in the rooftop HVAC unit over the adult
reading room 1/11.
C. The windows were cleaned 1/11.
D. A Public Works employee reported a gas smell near the Library’s meter 1/12. Reliant
Energy replaced the regulator the same day. Honeywell returned 1/13 to adjust the pilot re-
starts.
II. COLLECTION
A. A large order of 2004 “left-over” book titles was placed.
B. The adult paperback order was placed.
C. An order of replacement DVD titles was sent.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during their regularly
scheduled times the week of 1/3.
B. The Library Board met 1/4 with five members in attendance. New Council liaison Bruce
Kelzenberg was welcomed by the Board.
C. All tax forms received are out and available to the public as of 1/10.
D. The Friends did not meet in January.
E. The Garfield Reading Program started 1/18.
F. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 1/20.
G. Adult Reading Program, “Hot Reads for Cold Nights,” started 1/24.
H. Family Storytime was held 1/29.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The Implementation Phase for the ILS has started in earnest! 1/12 Paul upgraded the
memory of the existing pc’s that will be used as part of the ILS network. Two new pc’s
which will replace the current Internet browsers were delivered 1/12.
B. The Policy Group met 1/13 to set up the ground rules for the two days of on-site meetings
with the SIRSI representative. Ten people representing various aspects of the library system
were chosen to serve on the team.
C. Mary Wood, SIRSI representative, met with the Policy Group 1/19 and 1/20 to prepare the
first two documents needed for the ILS implementation.
D. Becky wrote the second in a series of articles about the ILS for the Library’s newsletter, The
Sampler.
V. STAFF
A. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 1/4.
B. Marsha met with Senior Citizen Coordinator Karen Moeller 1/5 to discuss a potential series
of “Grandparents’ Teas.” Both were enthusiastic about the combination of Children and
Seniors, and the programs are in development.
C. Teri Olberding has started page training as of 1/6. She is scheduled to take her test 1/24 and
join the regular schedule as soon as possible.
D. Becky met 1/13, 1/19 and 1/20 with other members of the ILS Policy Group.
E. Marsha met with Jack Kubitz, children’s book representative, on 1/21.
F. Dana Weigman attended MELSA survey training 1/25.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 1/12 with all members present. Tom Sherohman reported on the
Minnesota Regional Arts Council (MRAC) grant that has been received by the Foundation.
Tom and Marsha were able to observe a session being taught by Wendy Lehr for a similar
grant and were very impressed with her skills. Marlaine reported on the history book
project. Don talked to the Columbia Heights High School committee chair about a joint
meeting, and 2/17 was chosen as the date. Cliff presented information on selling Spanish
peanuts as a fundraiser during the Jamboree and delivered a $5,000 checque for the
Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters as a donation to the Foundation.

B. Articles for the City Newsletter were submitted. The Foundation’s MRAC grant will share
the front page.
C. Beverly Flaherty was guest of honor at an open house 1/20 at the Northtown branch of the
Anoka County Library. Bev worked for the County library in many positions over the years
and retired as Director on 1/1/05. I would like to recognize Bev as a colleague who was
always ready to work out a solution and who contributed greatly to the positive relationship
between the Columbia Heights Public Library and the Anoka County Library. I join the
Board and staff in wishing her the best.
