Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: November operational report DATE: November 30, 2004 I. Building Maintenance and Equipment A. The floor in the Activity Room was buffed 11/8. B. Schindler performed routine maintenance on the elevator 11/16. C. The windows were cleaned 11/18. D. Honeywell performed routine maintenance on the HVAC 11/19. E. The Jackson Street re-construction project was finally completed in November. II. Collection A. The following orders were placed: 1. Books: two large orders to Baker & Taylor. 2. Adult paperbacks and 2005 Fodor’s. 3. DVD’s, cd’s, and videos. B. Orders for funds to be expended in 2004 are nearly complete. Staff is reviewing standing orders and will close as many old purchase orders as possible at the end of the year in preparation for the new automation system. C. The large print weeding project was completed 11/3. D. The single-copy project in the juvenile collection was completed 11/10. E. The video weeding has progressed thru the titles that start with the letter “G”. III. Programs A. The Friends met 11/1 with 9 members present. B. The Library Board met 11/1 with five members present. Board member Audrey Hyatt attended her last meeting before moving out of Columbia Heights. She spoke briefly about how much she has enjoyed her work on the Board and how she will continue to support the Library. C. Six sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month. D. The bulk loan to the high rises was not delivered in November. Mary will be following up on the future of this program. E. “Shark Mania”, featuring the denizens from the aquarium at the Mall of America, drew a crowd 11/4. F. Two “Skipping Saturday” storytime were held 11/6 and 11/20. G. Immaculate Conception School classes came to the Library during their regularly- scheduled times the week of 11/8. H. Children’s’ Book Week was celebrated 11/14-11/20. I. Special storytimes were held: 1. 11/16: Julie’s Traveling Story Bag 2. 11/22: “Calling all Turkeys” J. The bulk loan to the schools was delivered 11/18. K. Marsha put on a special storytime aimed at Hispanics at School District #13 11/18. L. An English as a Second Language Level II group came to the Library 11/30 for a field trip. IV. Technology A. Becky attended the Automation Committee meeting 11/3. Heather and Mary thanked all the members for the enormous amount of effort and hard work that has gone into the project so far. The committee disbanded, and an Implementation Committee will be formed for the next phase of the project. B. Becky attended two days of contract negotiations 11/16 and 11/17 between ACL and SIRSI. Pat McClintock, the automation consultant from RMG, Heather, and Mary Caven represented the library system. Assistant Anoka County Attorney Dan Klint also participated. The goal is to have a contract signed as soon as possible. C. Qwest began work on the network changes at COH 11/22. V. Staff A. Three permanent staff celebrated work anniversaries: Mary Kloss (26 years), Joanne Peterson (6 months), and Jeanine Schmidt (18 years). B. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 11/4. C. Marsha met 11/24 with Immaculate Conception School Principal Katherine Lange to discuss the Accelerated Reader program. VI. Foundation A. Becky met 11/23 with Foundation Board President Tom Sherohman to brainstorm ideas for fundraisers and projects for the Foundation. B. The Foundation Board met 11/30 with all members present. They discussed potential fundraisers and projects. VII. Miscellaneous A. Major projects 1. ILS project. 2. 2005 proposed budget. 3. Collection maintenance. B. The staff has been preparing the 2005 work plan during the month. C. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 11/16. VIII.
