HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report from Marsha To: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s Librarian Subject: November 2004 Operations Report Date: November 29, 2004 I. PROGRAMS Additional fall programming has kept the staff very busy with limited success. The Schools Out series events of Underwater Adventures and Scrapbooking pulled reasonably well, but our Saturday Storytimes and Evening Storytimes have had very poor response. COLLECTION A. In September we began weeding the easy collection of single titles (COH only) and low circ items. In late October we began weeding J non-fiction titles, I was astounded to discover the number of “COH only” titles that were still a part of this collection. The last inventory for J Non-Fiction was completed in 2000 (including transactions) and at that time we withdrew single copies and low circ items. With this weeding project I estimate that I withdrew from the non- fiction section alone approximately 750-800 books. Staff continued weeding based on the results of the non-fiction project and completed the project through the following sections: J Quartos, EJ Fiction, Readers, Easy Non-Fiction, J Fiction, YA hardcovers, and are currently in the process of weeding J audio cassettes. This was a mammoth project, which the staff is happy to have completed. B. Final book orders for 2004 were submitted by November 23. III. PROJECTS A. Winter programming preparations are currently underway and involve: ?? Winter reading program for families ?? Potential continuation of Saturday Storytime ?? Potential Author visits ?? Winter Storytime st ?? Preparation of 1 quarter program calendar IV. STAFF A. Pages aided in the weeding of the Juvenile and YA collection B. Library Aide Cristy Tombarge prepared two holiday book displays, printed and aided in the preparations of National Book Week activities, printed the monthly newsletter, and aided in weeding of files. C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson updated the magazine listings and reviewed status of subscriptions with changes going to the County. She aided in weeding of readers and J nonfiction materials, prepared activities for National Children’s Book Week, and prepared three new booklists for printing (Vampire Fiction and two on Fantasy fiction).
