I. Building Maintenance and Equipment
A. The security system by the south entrance had to be repaired by 3M 10/1.
B. Public works repaired the stall latch in the men’s restroom 10/5. They also re-
attached the front cover of a power panel in the furnace room.
C. Honeywell performed routine maintenance on the boiler 10/15.
D. The windows were cleaned 10/18.
E. Orkin performed routine maintenance 10/20.
II. Collection
A. A small number of items were sent back from the bindery 10/27.
B. Becky met with Vicky Wendell from the Anoka County Historical Society 10/29
to examine a large quantity of documents rescued from the NEI building prior to
demolition.
C. Four book orders and a dvd order were placed. Several audiocassette and
compact disc orders were prepared to be sent next month.
D. Weeding of the single-copy easy books was completed.
E. Weeding of the Large Print books has started.
F. The Columbia Heights/Lomianki Sister Cities’ organization donated a copy of the
Illustrated history of Poland 10/4.
III. Programs
A. The Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library during their
regularly-scheduled times 10/4-10/8.
B. The Friends met 10/4 at the Dragon House Café.
C. The Board met 10/5 with all members present.
D. The bulk loan was delivered to the high rises 10/6.
E. Library Supervisor Dana Weigman, a talented balloon sculptor, participated in
“Balloons Across America” 10/6 by making balloon figures in the Children’s
Department for an hour during the day.
F. Two “Skipping Saturday Storytimes” were held 10/9 and 10/23.
G. Six sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month.
H. Teen Read Week was celebrated 10/18-10/23.
I. “Scrap-booking for Teens” program was held 10/20.
J. Pam Nelson’s program, “I Was a Teen-Age Nobody” was held 10/26.
K. Two Halloween storytimes were held 10/27 and 10/30.
L. The bulk loan to the schools was delivered 10/28.
IV. Technology
A. Staff attended the SIRSI vendor demos 10/5 and 10/6 and the Innovative
Interfaces vendor demos 10/14 and 10/15 as part of the selection process for the
new Integrated Library System (ILS).
B. The Evaluation Team met 10/26, and after much analysis of information, selected
SIRSI as the vendor for the new ILS. The consultant will participate in contract
negotiations, and the goal is to have a contract as soon as possible. The staff has
worked very hard on this portion of a long project.
V. Staff
A. Marsha attended a Summer Reading Club meeting 10/12 at LSS.
B. Becky attended two ILS task force meetings on 10/19 and the Evaluation Team
meeting 10/26.
VI. Foundation
A. The Foundation Board met 10/21. Tom Sherohman presented information on the
MRAC grant that was submitted by the Foundation and identified several other
potential grant opportunities. Members will have a brainstorming session on
fundraising as part of their November meeting.

A. Major projects

B. Two MELSA crossover use surveys were conducted on 10/13 and 10/30.
C. The Library Board met with the City Council 10/18 to discuss the proposed 2005
Library budget
D. Staff members Becky Loader, Kelly Olson, Joanne Peterson, Jeanine Schmidt,
Nancy Soldatow (and her mom Harriet Marsh), and Cristy Tombarge (and her
mom Rosalie Tombarge) participated in Make-a-Difference Day by preparing
Birthday Bags to donate to SACA. Birthday Bags are prepared by age group and
contain all the necessary ingredients for a birthday party for 8 people.
E. The staff enjoyed judging the fire safety posters 10/22. We think we picked a real
winner this year!
