Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Library boardroom with 9 members present. Nancy Rathbun talked about the memorials given in honor of Marie Marquart and read a card from Marie’s daughter Melody Dowdle. The Friends discussed participating in Project Bookshelf and offered to help me set up the tax form display. They will have a luncheon meeting th Monday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dragon House restaurant in Columbia Heights. B. At-Home Service: I pulled books and arranged delivery for three homebound patrons. C. Bulk Loans: I selected and processed bulk loans for Parkview Villa and Royce Place and st delivered them on Wednesday, September 1. II. COLLECTION: A. I did not work on collection development this month. III. PROJECTS & GOALS: A. Bulletin board: I displayed a fall bulletin board with the theme, “ Get smart. Use the Library. Read everyday”. The illustrations for the bulletin board were adapted from a children’s book, The Smushy Bus by Leslie Helakoski. B. Book display: “Soup’s on. Bread’s baking. Stew’s simmering. Its fall” is the theme of the book display in the lobby of the library. It features cookbooks with recipes from bread, muffins, soups, stews, and crock-pots. C. Supply ordering: Barcodes and miscellaneous office and general supplies were ordered this month. D. Fidelity Cleaners: Andrew the cleaner has resigned his position, and a new cleaner will start in October. In the mean time, a substitute is cleaning the library. There were several issues this month dealing with dusting, sweeping, and spot cleaning the carpet. There was also no follow up done by Andrew’s supervisor, Mitch, when he said he would do so. Sheryl Enrico, manager of this cleaning company is aware of the problems and th conducted a walk thru on Tuesday, September 28. E. Library newsletter: I took photos of our new pages and interviewed them for our newsletter. F. Heights Happenings: I completed the articles for the winter edition of Heights Happenings and gave them to Jeanine for submission to the Recreation Department. G. Volunteers: Sandi Engquist donated three hours delivering books to “At Home Patrons” and Shari Briley donated 3 ½ hours shelf reading. H. Routine Tasks: I completed adding to the scrapbook all news clippings on the library through the most recent editions of the Focus and Northeaster newspapers. I also worked on the lists of withdrawn books. I. Booklists & brochures: A handout on Black American authors was completed, and I continued work on the on-line resources brochure. J. Tours: I gave a talk on the library and tour to a Level 4 ESL class on Thursday, th September 16 at 11:00 a.m. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Posted New York Times Best Seller list B. Added books to the COH-NEW displays C. Sent out newsletters to City and ACL staff D. Prepared weekly task calendars E. Supervised staff while Becky was out of the office on September 16, 17, 27, and 28 F. Processed payroll and conducted staff meeting on 9/16 G. Prepared copy for the October Sampler H. Posted signs for the Labor Day closing, 9/6 MMK/jms
