Friends of the Library: The Friends met on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. to sort books for the book sale and a meeting. At the meeting, they voted to raise the prices at the book sale: hardcover books were raised from 50 cents to $1.00 and paperbacks from 25 cents to 50 cents. The prices for magazines, cassettes, videos and compact discs remained the same. The Friends netted $1,400.39 from the book sale. This included 29 pre-sale tickets sold at $5.00 each. The Friends were happy with the amount of money they made which was only $53.19 less than their 2003 sale. The 2003 book sale was their top moneymaker. The Friend's next meeting will be on Monday, June 7 at 11 :00 a.m. for lunch at the Dragon House Restaurant. They will not meet in July and August. B. At-Home Service: I had three requests for "At Home Service". Books were delivered by Sandi Engquist. C. Bulk Loans: I selected and processed bulk loans to Parkview Villa and Royce Place and delivered them on Wednesday, May 5. II. COLLECTION: A. The books on compact disc I ordered have been received and processed. B. The tourism brochures continue to arrive daily, and I am in the process oflabeling them for the vertical file. C. A few out-state phone directories were received and put in the reference collection. III. PROJECTS & GOALS: A. Bulletin Board: This month my summer bulletin board was displayed with the theme: Summer Sun, Reading Fun. B. Book display: The book display commemorating the 60th anniversary of D-Day continued throughout the month featuring books about Dwight D. Eisenhower and this historic event. C. Fidelity: Fidelity Cleaners conducted a walk-thru on May 18th. The report was more positive than last month. Andrew, the new cleaner, is doing a better job than the last person. I have had to leave him notes about towel dispensers, equipment left out, and wastebaskets but each problem is taken care of the following day. D. Annual report flyer: I started on the text for the annual report flyer and plan to have it completed the first week in June. E. Budget sheet: I prepared a budget sheet for office and library supplies through May 10. F. Supply ordering: Numerous items were ordered this month: book covers, video cases, security strips for compact discs, copier paper, and office supplies. G. Volunteers: Sandi Engquist donated two hours delivering books to the "At Home Patrons" . IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Added books to the COH-NEW displays B. Prepared copy for the June issue of the Library Sampler C. Corrected addresses in database for returned letters and notices D. Prepared a weekly task calendar E. Posted signs for the Memorial Day closing F. Sent out library newsletters to City and ACL staff G. Posted the New York Times best seller list H. Supervised staff, conducted a staff meeting, and prepared payroll while Becky was out of the office May 10-14 I. I was out of the office on May 27 and 28 MMKljms
