Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, March 1, at 1 :00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. Tom Sherohman, representative from the Library Foundation Board made a presentation on a benefit planned for Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Heights Theatre. Becky presented the wish list for 2004. There were three items on the list: server for automated circulation system, slat wall browser bins to house the children's cd collection, and replacement mats for the main floor. The Friends voted to make a contribution towards the server and purchase the browser bins and replacement mats. Betty Robbins reported that the science fiction paperbacks left from the 2003 book sale and sold on E-Bay have so far netted $45.00 for the Friends. The next Friends meeting will be Monday, April 5th at 1 :00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. Co-president Margaret Anderson will reside at the meeting. B. At-Home Service: I had requests for three "At Home Service" deliveries. C. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans to Parkview Villa and Royce Place on Wednesday, March 10th. II. COLLECTION: A. I started my first order of the year for books-on-tape and cd's. B. I placed an order to Verizon and Qwest for current copies of suburban and out-state directories. The order from Verizon has been received. III. PROJECTS & GOALS: A. Tax forms: We have distributed many tax forms and booklets. Debra Patrin, IRS volunteer continues to help with form distribution and answering questions on Saturdays. B. Book Sale: I prepared posters and bookmarks advertising the sale, faxed a press release to the Focus and Northeaster, and designed a bulletin board for the lobby promoting the sale. The Friends are in the process of scheduling workers for the sale. C. Adult Reading Program: This year, 55 patrons registered for the adult reading program. This number was half the number of patrons who registered last year. Prizes were well received by the winners, and a total of 23 book reviews turned in. D. Fidelity Cleaners: Fidelity conducted a walk thru on March 18th. We continue to have cleaning issues with them on daily tasks not done, and with the downstairs bathroom not being cleaned well enough to eliminate odors. Becky would like to see a new person hired to clean the library. I have been in frequent contact with Sheryl Enrico, Quality Specialist for Fidelity. E. Routine maintenance: This month, I changed the bathroom air fresheners, checked the fire extinguishers, and preformed routine maintenance on the security system. F. Supply ordering: Miscellaneous office and general supplies were ordered G. City Hall showcase: I am in the process of creating a display for the City Hall showcase. H. Volunteers: During March, volunteers worked 20 1Iz hours. This included shelf reading, delivering books to the homebound, and assembling summer reading materials. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Prepared copy for the April library newsletter. B. Added fiction and non-fiction to the COH-NEW displays. C. Posted the New York Times Best Seller List. D. Prepared March shelf reading assignments. E. Prepared a weekly work calendar. F. Addressed the March Library newsletter to ACL and City staff members. G. Ordered the summer edition of the Minnesota Explorer, Hotel, Campground and Resort guides, and Minnesota Grown Directory 2004. MMK/jms
