Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, January 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. The Friends enjoyed the 75th Anniversary Party on December 3. Betty Robbins is in the process of listing on E-bay a quantity of older science fiction paperbacks that were donated and leftover from the 2003 booksale. She will give another update at the February meeting. Rita Norberg and Gloria Tarmann volunteered to help me set up the tax form display on Monday, January lih. B. At-Home Service: I had two requests for "At Home Service" and one new patron registered for the service. C. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans on Wednesday, January 7 to Parkview Villa and Royce Place. Heights Manor had to cancel their bulk loan delivery because their new office hours no longer coincide with my delivery day. II. COLLECTION: A. Collection development: I did not have an opportunity to start my first order of the year for audio books and books on CD. I have rescheduled this for late February or early March. III. PROEJCTS & GOALS: A. Tax forms: All the federal and state tax forms and booklets were displayed for the public on Monday, January lih. New this year is a portable file, which contains hanging files of the individual tax forms. This file appears to be more visible than the revolving rack I have used in the past. I labeled each hanging file, so the patrons can easily locate the form they need. On Saturday mornings during the tax season, Debra Patrin, IRS volunteer, is again helping with form distribution. B. Book display: This month's book display featured our newest books on yoga, fitness and health, weight loss, and carbohydrates. I have started pulling books for February's display featuring contemporary African-American writers. C. Adult Reading Program: "Hot Reads for Cold Nights" started Tuesday, January 20th and continues until Feb. 28th. As of today, 37 adults have registered. New this year, a count will be kept of the number of books checked out during the program. D. Fidelity Cleaners: Fidelity Cleaners conducted a walk-thru on Thursday, January 15th. There continues to be issues on routine tasks not done or improperly done. A roll of fabric towels was left in a sink, toilet tissues holders were not refilled, and the floor in the women's bathroom not mopped each evening. I have been in touch with Mitch Beauman about these issues and also with Sheryl Enrico. E. Volunteers: During January, volunteers donated 10 hours. F. Maintenance items: I cleaned off the fans in the security system, replaced spray deodorizers in the restrooms, and checked all the building's fire extinguishers. G. Annual report: I am in the process of completing the data sheet for the 2003 annual report. H. Supply ordering: I inventoried the light bulbs and placed an order. Other general supplies including CD security cases and paper products have also been ordered. I. "Introduction to the Library class": One person attended my class on Wednesday, Jan. 21 st. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Prepared copy for the February Library newsletter B. Posted signs for Library closing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day C. Added COH-NEW books for displaying D. Posted the New York Times book review E. Prepared February shelf reading assignments F. Added microfilm to the file cabinet and had listing updated G. Prepared a weekly work calendar H. Addressed the January Library newsletter to ACL and City Staff MMK/jms
