Operational Report, January 2004
January 30, 2004
I. PROGRAMS:
A. Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, January 5th at 1:00
p.m. in the Library Boardroom. The Friends enjoyed the 75th Anniversary Party on
December 3. Betty Robbins is in the process of listing on E-bay a quantity of older
science fiction paperbacks that were donated and leftover from the 2003 booksale. She
will give another update at the February meeting. Rita Norberg and Gloria Tarmann
volunteered to help me set up the tax form display on Monday, January lih.
B. At-Home Service: I had two requests for "At Home Service" and one new patron
registered for the service.
C. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans on Wednesday, January 7 to
Parkview Villa and Royce Place. Heights Manor had to cancel their bulk loan delivery
because their new office hours no longer coincide with my delivery day.
II. COLLECTION:
A. Collection development: I did not have an opportunity to start my first order of the year
for audio books and books on CD. I have rescheduled this for late February or early
March.
III. PROEJCTS & GOALS:
A. Tax forms: All the federal and state tax forms and booklets were displayed for the public
on Monday, January lih. New this year is a portable file, which contains hanging files
of the individual tax forms. This file appears to be more visible than the revolving rack I
have used in the past. I labeled each hanging file, so the patrons can easily locate the
form they need. On Saturday mornings during the tax season, Debra Patrin, IRS
volunteer, is again helping with form distribution.
B. Book display: This month's book display featured our newest books on yoga, fitness and
health, weight loss, and carbohydrates. I have started pulling books for February's
display featuring contemporary African-American writers.
C. Adult Reading Program: "Hot Reads for Cold Nights" started Tuesday, January 20th and
continues until Feb. 28th. As of today, 37 adults have registered. New this year, a count
will be kept of the number of books checked out during the program.
D. Fidelity Cleaners: Fidelity Cleaners conducted a walk-thru on Thursday, January 15th.
There continues to be issues on routine tasks not done or improperly done. A roll of
fabric towels was left in a sink, toilet tissues holders were not refilled, and the floor in the
women's bathroom not mopped each evening. I have been in touch with Mitch Beauman
about these issues and also with Sheryl Enrico.
E. Volunteers: During January, volunteers donated 10 hours.
F. Maintenance items: I cleaned off the fans in the security system, replaced spray
deodorizers in the restrooms, and checked all the building's fire extinguishers.
G. Annual report: I am in the process of completing the data sheet for the 2003 annual
report.
H. Supply ordering: I inventoried the light bulbs and placed an order. Other general
supplies including CD security cases and paper products have also been ordered.
I. "Introduction to the Library class": One person attended my class on Wednesday, Jan.
