I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The electric motor attached to the pump on the boiler motor malfunctioned on 1/8.
Honeywell responded and replaced the problem part.
B. Orkin treated the lunchroom for an ant problem 1/9.
C. Public Works crews changed light bulbs 1/15 and repaired the downstairs toilet 1/22.
D. Mary conducted a walk through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 1/15.
E. The floor of the activity room was buffed 1/21.
II. COLLECTION
A. The rotation oflarge print books within the County occurred 1/28.
B. Several book orders were placed: Fodor's travel guides, titles left over from 2003, adult
paperbacks, replacement copies, and collection development copies for the adult 300's.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. No changes.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends met 1/5 with seven members present.
B. The Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library during their scheduled times
the week of 1/5.
C. The Library Board met 1/6 with five members in attendance.
D. All available tax forms were put out for the public 1/12. IRS employee Debra Patrin will be
volunteering on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon to help maintain order.
E. The bulk loan was delivered to the high rises 1/14.
F. The Foundation Board met 1/14 with four members present. Planning and assignments for
the June fundraiser progressed rapidly.
G. Marsha presented a program entitled, "The Importance of Reading to Young Children," at
Columbia Heights High School on 1/15.
H. The Adult Reading Program, "Hot Reads for Cold Nights," started 1/20.
I. F our sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month.
1. Mary conducted a Web 2 class 1/21.
K. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 1/22.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. Becky attended the first meeting of the Automation Committee 1/7. This committee will
evaluate various automation vendors and make a recommendation to replace the old acs with
a new integrated library system.
VI. STAFF
A. Lita Krause joined the staff as a Library Page. Her training was completed 1/21, and she
started working a regular schedule 1/23.
B. Library Supervisor Barb Kondrick accepted a position with the Hennepin County Library
system. Her last day was 1/20.
C. Marsha celebrated her lOth year as Children's Librarian at Columbia Heights Public Library
in January.
D. Becky attended the Public Service meeting in Johnsville 1/15.
E. Becky attended Technology Plan training 1/21 at the MELSA office.
F. Applications for the Library Supervisor position closed 1/26. Interviews were held the same
week.
G. Becky attended the Library Operations Council meeting at the County 1/29.
H. Kelly attended the winter Municipals workshop 1/29.
I. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 1/29.
VII. MISC
A. Projects in progress:
a. Anoka County Library Technology Plan revision
b. Columbia Heights Public Library Technology Plan revision
c. Implementation of the 2004 approved budget
d. Replacement and training of part-time staff
e. City version of Annual Report
f. Replacement of acs
B. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 1/21.
