Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: December operational report DATE: December 31, 2003 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Honeywell changed the filters in the HV AC system 12/3. B. Fidelity removed all the old finish on the activity room and workroom floors 12/11. A new topcoat was applied, and a monthly buffing program will start in January. C. Orkin performed a routine inspection 12/18. D. The windows were cleaned 12/19. II. COLLECTION A. Staff closed down all 2003 purchase orders. Preparation for the first orders of 2004 are under way. B. The adult 300's weeding project was completed. The adult 300's and 600's are targeted for collection development in 2004. III. EQUIPMENT A. Schindler performed routine maintenance on the elevator 12/15. The technician checked the door closing "nudging" device and found it to be functioning correctly. B. Coordinated Business Systems technician spent two hours working on the coin-op public copier 12/16. He resolved the problem with copying from books and placed a temporary fix on the re-set button. I feel confident that this technician understands the equipment and will follow through with a resolution. C. The main floor Internet browser table was replaced. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met 12/1 with ten members present. B. The Library Board met 12/2 with 6 members in attendance. C. The bulk loan was delivered to the high rises 12/3. D. The grand finale open house for the 75th Anniversary year was held 12/3 from 12: 00- 7: 00 p.m. The Board and I were extremely pleased with the attendance and the way people were enjoying themselves. The Board and I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the staff and volunteers that made the event a success. E. 73 books were collected for Project Bookshelf. F. Mary's Web2 class 12/17 had three participants. G. The bulk loan to the schools was delivered 12/18. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. No changes. VI. STAFF A. Marsha and Becky met with Kathy Lange, Principal of Immaculate Conception School, on 12/4 to learn about the new preschool program the school will be offering in 2004. B. Jeanine and Becky received network training for the new City Hall copier on 12/8. 1 VII. C. D. MISC A. B. A MELSA crossover survey was conducted 12/1. Projects in progress: a. Conclusion of the 75th Anniversary celebration year. b. Resolution of problems with new public coin-op copier. c. Re-finishing of tile floors in Activity Room and workroom. d. Approval of the 2004 proposed budget. e. Anoka County Library Technology Plan revision. f. Columbia Heights Public Library Technology Plan revision. g. Page training and schedule; updating of page manual, quizzes, and tests. The Library staff attended the City holiday party 12/10. Mary Kloss received her 25th year service award. Becky and Marsha met with the pages 12/8 to finalize the winter 2004 schedule. The part-time Library Supervisor schedule was set for winter 2004. c. VIII.
