Friends of the Library: The Friends met for a dinner meeting on Monday, October 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Keys Restaurant in Spring Lake Park. Their agenda included Project Bookshelf and the Library's 75th Birthday/Anniversary Party on December 3rd. Several members signed up to serve at the party. Their next meeting is scheduled for 1 :00 p.m. at the Library on Monday, November 3. Sandi Engquist took over as secretary. B. At home service: I had three requests for "At Home Service". They were delivered by Sandi Engquist. C. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans on Wednesday, October 1 st to Parkview Villa, Heights Manor, and Royce Place. II. COLLECTION: A. I did not work on collection development this month. III. PROEJCTS & GOALS: A. Monthly budget report: I prepared a monthly budget report through October 27 for office, computer, ACS, and general supplies. B. Book display: I organized a display of books and pamphlets to recognize October as National Domestic Violence Awareness month. To obtain additional information for this display, I contacted Alexandra House, Children's Home Crisis Nursery of Anoka County, and Anoka County Victim Services. Each of these organizations sent me pamphlets and flyers for the display. C. October is Polish-American Heritage Month: I pulled books on Poland for a display and had a booklist duplicated. D. 75th Anniversary Celebration: The Columbia Heights Sister City Committee was our "Patron of the Month" for October. I had a certificate prepared and Becky presented it to Delores Strand. E. "Introducing the Library class": This one hour introductory class on how to use the library's computerized catalog was advertised in the October Sampler. Two patrons registered for the classes, which I taught on October 15 & 22 at 10:00 a.m. I prepared a class synopsis with goals for this program. F. Volunteers: Volunteers in the adult department contributed 11 hours this month by shelf reading and delivering books to "At Home" patrons. G. Fidelity Cleaners: I sent numerous emails to Sheryl Enrico to inform her of things not done or improperly done. These each were remedied. The new cleaner still has much to learn but is slowly improving. H. Supply ordering: Numerous supplies were ordered and PO's prepared for book covers, barcodes, CD covers, printing cartridges, plastic trash bags, and office supplies. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Prepared copy for the November Library newsletter. B. Prepared copy for the employee newsletter. C. Added books to the COH-NEW displays. D. Posted New York Times Best Seller List. E. Addressed library newsletter to City and ACL staff. F. Withdrew shelf list cards for books withdrawn. G. Supervised staff when Becky was away from the library on Friday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 28. H. Corrected addresses on returned notices. I. Filed items in the vertical file. 1. Added labels to the microfilm file. K. Added books to the "Read-a-likes" display. MMK/jms
