I. PROGRAMS:
A. Friends of the Library: The Friends met on Monday, September 6t\ at 1 :00 p.m. at the library.
Discussion was held on Project Bookshelf, upcoming evening dinner meeting, wish list
purchases, and serving at the Anniversary/Birthday Open House on Wednesday, December 3rd. I
sent invitations to all members who did not attend this meeting informing them of the evening
meeting on October 6th.
B. At home service: I had two requests for "At Home Service". Sandi Engquist delivered them.
e. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans on Wednesday, September 3rd to
Parkview Villa, Heights Manor, and Royce Place.
II. COLLECTION:
A. I did not work on collection development this month.
III. PROEJCTS & GOALS:
A. Tax forms: I placed the order for Federal tax forms and requested double the amount of common
forms and booklets.
B. Bulletin Board: This month's bulletin board is "Read-a-likes". It displays colored photos of six
popular authors: James Patterson, Jennifer Crusie, Jan Karon, Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts, and
John Sandford and includes "Readalike" bookmarks listing authors who write similar to those
pictured. A book display is being developed to coordinate with this bulletin board.
e. Monthly budget report: I prepared a monthly budget report through September 8th.
D. Volunteers: Shari Alexon shelf read 1 % hours for "Adopt a Shelf', and Sandi Engquist
volunteered one hour for delivering items to two homebound patrons.
E. Fidelity Building Services: On Thursday 9/1l/03, I participated in a walk thru with Sheryl Enrico
of Fidelity. As of 9/16/03, I have made two phone calls to Mitch Bauman, Area Manager of
Fidelity, about custodial tasks not done or not done properly. Mitch stopped in the library on
9/16/03 and did a walk thru. He said he leaves messages about our concerns on the cleaner's
phone. He also said we need to have Orkin spray for spiders to cut down on our cobweb
problem. On Wednesday, September 17, I called Sheryl Enrico to discuss the problems with our
cleaner.
F. 75th Anniversary Celebration: I sent out "Patron of the Month: certificates with a cover letter to
Dr. Nancy Kaldor, Superintendent of IDS #13 and Kathryn Lange, Principal ofImmaculate
Conception School. In September, the schools in Columbia Heights are being honored as
"Patrons of the Month" for cooperative programming and support of public library services in
Columbia Heights. I also began recruiting Friends members for serving at the December Open
House.
G. Supply ordering: Ordered miscellaneous office and library supplies.
IV. MISCELLANEOUS
A. Organized a display for the East Room showcase.
B. Posted New York Times Best Seller List.
C. Withdrew shelf list cards for books marked withdrawn.
D. Participated in my annual performance review.
E. Prepared copy for the October Library newsletter.
F. Supervised staff while Becky was on vacation 9/12 and 9/15.
G. Addressed library newsletters to City and ACL staff.
H. Added books to the COH-NEW displays.
I. Prepared copy for the winter edition of Heights Happenings.
