Programs
A. Summer Reading Fun
1. Libra registration for the month of June is 126. This is the first time that Libra registration has
gone over 100 since the Harry Potter season. The bandanas appear to be very popular.
However, I suspect that by summer's end we will have discovered the additional registration is
due in large part to requiring that children leaving 5th grade register for LIBRA and not the
MELSA program.
2. MELSA Summer Reading Fun total for June is 403. This appears to be slightly ahead oflast
year's registration.

Collection
A. Magazines: Kelly Olson, Children's Department Clerk submitted the following Magazine report for
June2003 :
We had problems this past month with theft of two titles. Bon Appetit and Taste of Home's Light &
Tasty were both taken from the display cases. I requested these titles from EBSCO and they happened to
have extra copies in the missing copy bank so they sent them to us free of charge. We were still having a
problem with 0 Magazine so a claim was sent. I received notification that they will be restarting with
the June issue and were able to locate April and June from the copy bank. Travel Holiday has ceased
publication. A request has been sent for a refund. The Library Director was notified that a court date has
been scheduled for divine/Rowecom. She will be informed as to any assets that will be available for
distribution.
B. I submitted two large orders to Baker and Taylor this month, both were added to the collection within the
week
C. We received our first direct order from BWI, four weeks after placing the order. Considering that this
order consisted of paperbacks that were listed as available on their WEB site, I am certainly disappointed
in the turn around time.
III. Projects
A. Articles for the fall issue of Heights Happenings are complete and have been submitted to the Adult Clerk
Typist.
B. Plans are underway for fall programming which will include: Teen Read Week, National Children's
Book Week, Storytime, Volunteer Recognition, American Girl, and preparations for the 75th Anniversary
event.
C. Inventory of the entire children's collection was completed this month. The next inventory should begin
in 2007.
D. Volunteers have been busy aiding staff in preparations for programs and registration of children in the
summer reading programs.
E. At the Director's request I represented the Library in welcoming the Lomianki dignitaries on June 27,
2003. The Library received several documents as a part of this program including books on Poland, a
letter from the Lomianki Bibliotheca, maps, newsletters and brochures from Lomianki. They were a
wonderfully open and friendly group. My thanks to the staff and library board members for their help.
IV. Staff
A. Pages are working on mending of the easy books, processing of books and registration of children for
summer programs.
B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge has been instrumental in preparing crafts for our Funtime Storytime
program and photocopying library brochures. She will also spend time this month and next aiding in the
evaluation of new copiers.
C. Kelly Olson, Children's Department Clerk, sent and received a number of book orders this month,
corresponded with EBSCO several times each week and aided the librarian in work direction to
volunteers and pages, aided in preparations of parade materials. She also prepared and printed a number
of items for the Lomianki visit and Super Tuesday programs.
