I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. On 3/28 a minor leak developed around the air conditioner ductwork over the adult reading
room. Daleo responded 4/1 and re-caulked. The leak re-occurred 4/16, and Daleo re-sealed
around a filter door in the unit, adjusted the pitch pan, and resealed several seams.
B. Olson Plumbing repaired the spigot in the workroom sink 4/10.
C. Honeywell performed maintenance tasks 4/3 (air handling unit cycling problem); 4/11
(prepped the air conditioning units).
D. Public works repaired a floodlight and a faucet 4/7.
E. All-Safe performed routine maintenance on the fire extinguishers 4/6.
F. Minnegasco performed a safety check inspection 4/9.
G. The windows were cleaned 4/10.
H. The floor mats were sent out for cleaning 4/25.
I. The carpeting was cleaned 4/27.
II. COLLECTION
A. F our regular book orders and one paperback order were placed in April.
B. The patron's response to DVD's is very enthusiastic. A second order for DVD's has been
placed.
C. The change over to BT Link has been completed. Baker & Taylor provides this online
service free of charge so that staff can check availability, price, and order numbers of
materials.
D. Becky has started a major adult fiction project which will entail weeding, inventory, repair,
and replacement.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. The power cord from the main floor Internet browser was stolen 4/17.
B. One of the downstairs keyboard wedges went out 4/17. It has been sent out for repair, and
Al installed its replacement 4/24.
C. The emergency door alarms and emergency lights were checked and the batteries were
replaced 4/17.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Mary placed a display featuring "Read Across Heights" photos in the City Hall case 4/1.
B. The Board met 4/1 with one member absent.
C. The Foundation Board met 4/1 with one member absent.
D. Bulk loans to the senior high rises were delivered 4/2.
E. The bulk loan to the school was delivered 4/3.
F. Special recognition goes to Debra Patrin, IRS employee, who volunteered 21 hours at the
Library during the 2003 tax season.
G. National Library Week was celebrated with the theme, "Heights Loves to Read: 75 years @
the Columbia Heights Public Library".
H. The Friends met 4/7 at Keys Cafe for their semi-annual evening meeting.
I. The Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library the week of 4/7.
1. The Library participated in both tornado drills 4/10.
K. Columbia Heights was pleased to host the Anoka County Library Public Service meeting
4/10.
L. Bring Your Child to Work Day was observed 4/24 in the City. Eight children of employees
participated in the day-long event. Kelly gave a wonderful presentation on books that
appealed to ages 10-14 and generated a lot of interest among the kids.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. The acs has been plagued with ups and downs in service during the month. Qwest provides
the Library's public Internet service, which has also suffered significant down time in April.
VI. STAFF
A. Kelly attended a MELSA workshop of "Early Childhood Literacy" 4/3 at the Ridgedale
Library.
B. Becky proofread a grant application for the Fire Department.
C. Becky participated in a specialized training class on Group Wise scheduling 4/7.
D. On 4/7 Becky attended the public hearing for the proposed change in parking on Jackson
Street. The proposal was tabled.
E. Cristy Tombarge completed one year as the Library Aide during the month.
F. Nick Olberding completed his second year as a page in April.
G. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 4/29.
VII. MISC
A. Copy for the City newsletter was submitted for the months of June, July, and August.
B. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 4/4.
C. The annual report required by the State of Minnesota has been submitted online using the
new Informata program developed by Baker & Taylor. Because of the major changeovers at
LDS during the past year, the entire reporting and retrieval procedure changed.
