Operational Report, February 2003
February 28, 2003
I. PROGRAMS:
A. Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, February 3,2003 at 1:00 p.m.
in the Library boardroom. Becky and Marsha presented their "wish list". After their
presentation, the Friends discussed the items and voted on what they wanted to purchase for the
Library. The items to be purchased are: 3 chrome paperback racks, 10 newspaper archival
storage boxes, 5 packages of Melinex envelopes for documents, 1 4-way display stand for
DVD's, 1 slat wall display for the young adult hallway, and accessories for use with this display.
The Friends annual book sale is set for Thursday, May 15 with the presale on Wednesday
evening, May 14. The March meeting will be held at the library on Monday, March 3 at 1:00
P.M. On April 7, the Friends will have a dinner meeting at the Keys Restaurant in Spring Lake
Park beginning at 5:30 p.m. Those attending need to RSVP to Friends president, Nancy Rathbun
at 763-572-8628.
B. At home Service: I selected materials and arranged delivery for four "at home" patrons. Friend's
member, Sandi Engquist, delivered the items.
C. Bulk Loans: I processed and delivered bulk loans to Heights Manor, Parkview Villa, and Royce
Place on Wednesday, February 5. There was a misunderstanding on how the books at Royce
Place were to be distributed. After the delivery to Royce Place, I spoke with Gigi Cholett,
Housing Administrator, and together we are trying to formulate a plan for the book distribution.
II. COLLECTION:
A. Collection development: I did not work on collection development this month in the area of
audio books and books on compact disc. My first order for these items is scheduled on our
seasonal plan for March 2003.
III. PROEJCTS & GOALS:
A. Tax forms: This month, I reordered Minnesota and Federal tax forms. IRS volunteer, Debra
Patrin helped with form distribution on 2/1 and 2/15. Since the local post office is no longer
distributing forms, we have been very busy
B. Adult Reading Program: As of this date, 123 patrons have registered for "Celebrate Books" our
annual adult reading program. This exceeded my goal of registering at least 100 patrons. The
reading program is over March 1 with the final prize drawing to be held the week of March 3.
Winners will be notified by phone. This reading program is very well received by our patrons,
and they look forward to it.
C. Supply ordering: I placed large orders for light bulbs, book covers, and video cases. Additional
orders were placed for office supplies
D. 75th Anniversary Projects: I wrote the third "Links to the Past" article for the March library
newsletter. It covered the baby boom years from 1948 -1948. I also prepared an article on
March's patron of the month, Ruth Westerberg
