Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library did not meet this month. Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 3, at 1 :00 p.m. at the library. On the agenda is the "wish list" presented by Becky and Marsha, May 13, 2003, book sale date, and evening dinner meeting in April. B. At-Home Service: I selected materials and arranged delivery for 4 "at home" patrons that were delivered by Sandi Engquist. C. Bulk Loans: I processed and delivered bulk loans to Heights Manor and Parkview Villa on Wednesday, January 15. During the month, Gigi Chollett, Housing Administrator, at the Crestview Corporation in Columbia Heights contacted me. This corporation consists of the Boulevard Apartments, Royce Place, and Crestview Nursing Home. The paperwork for a bulk loan to these institutions was completed. The first delivery will be on Wednesday, February 5. D. Adopt-A-Shelf: During January, Shari Briley, Connie Carlson, Rita Norberg and Sharon Nelson volunteered time to shelf read their areas in the library. I sent one application out to a telephone inquiry about the program. II. COLLECTION: A. Collection development: I did not work on collection development this month. III. PROEJCTS & GOALS: A. Tax forms: The federal and Minnesota tax forms and instruction booklets were displayed on Monday, January 13. As of this time, we have received Vol. 1 of2 of the federal reproducible forms. The Minnesota reproducible forms have arrived but are not complete. Each week, I post a notice to keep the staff updated on the tax forms. We have had a lot of people come in for forms. B. Patron of the month: I contacted Elsie Albrecht, February Patron of the Month. I took a picture of Elsie, prepared her certificate, and composed an article on her for the library newsletter, C. 75th Anniversary Projects: I wrote the second "Links to the Past" article for the February library newsletter. The decade covered 1938-1948, the war years. It followed the same format as last month's and included events in Columbia Heights during this time and in the world, books people were reading, and library events. February has been designated as "Heights Loves to Read" Month. To celebrate this occasion, a blank valentine is being included in the February newsletter. Patrons (all ages) are being asked to complete a valentine for their favorite author. The valentines will be displayed on the main bulletin board. Patrons who complete the valentine will receive a valentine bookmark and a chance for a prize drawing. D. Book display: This month's display is of quartos or "Big Books". E. Adult Reading Program: As of 1/29/03, 110 patrons have registered for the adult reading program, "Celebrate Books". Weekly prizes have been given away. F. Annual Report Data Sheet: I prepared and completed the annual report data sheet and gave it to Kelly for inclusion in the 2002 annual report. G. Booklists: The "Celebrate 75 Books" booklist was completed and is ready to be copied. This list contains 75 "top picks" recommended by the Library staff as part of the Library's 75th Anniversary Celebration. More than half of the titles listed are annotated. Staff who contributed titles to this list are: John Brosnahan, Elaine Dietz-Mamaril, Beth Gilles, Mindy Hicks, Mary Kloss, Barb Kondrick, Becky Loader, Jenny Niznick, Kelly Olson, Nancy Soldatow, and Jeanine Schmidt. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Ordered office and general supplies. B. Posted New York Times Best Seller list. C. Posted signs for martin Luther King Jr. Day closing. D. Completed withdrawing shelf list cards from the December lists of withdrawals. E. Worked with Jeanine on Excel to develop a format for the 2003 supply budget expenditures.
