Friends: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, December 2, at 1:00 p.m. The Friends were updated on the Open House to be held 12/03/02 and the foundation fundraiser on 12/15/02. Several of the Friends will volunteer to be hostesses for the open house. Nancy Rathbun volunteered to bring the books from Project Bookshelf to SACA for their annual holiday distribution. 107 books were collected through this program. The Friends will not meet in January. Their next meeting will be February 6, at 1 :00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. B. At home service: I selected materials and arranged delivery to three "at home" patrons. Two of these were delivered by Sandi Engquist and one by me. C. Bulk Loans: Bulk loans were selected, processed, and delivered to Park View Villa and Heights Manor on Wednesday, December 4. Gigi Cholett from Columbia Village, which is associated with Crestview Nursing Home, contacted me about starting a bulk loan. I received their organization card application and will be making their first delivery of books on January 8th. D. Adopt-A-Shelf: Sharon Nelson became an Adopt-A-Shelfvolunteer this month and has been shelf reading the fiction. Additional volunteers for December were Shari Alexon and Rita Norberg. II. Collection develovment: A. The money in my budget for books-on-tape and books-on-compact disc has been expended for the year. III. Proiects and floals: A. Tax Forms: The Minnesota state tax forms were ordered this month. Tax forms will be made available to the public on Monday, January 13. B. Open House: I designed and created the guest book for the Anniversary Year Kick-off Open House. I also attended the open house and was responsible for the guest book and taking pictures. C. Patron ofthe Month: I contacted Bruce Nawrocki to inform him of his selection as "Patron of the Month for January 2003". I took a photo of Bruce for the newsletter and bulletin board. D. Links to the Past: I wrote the first article for the Links to the Past column that was published in the January 2003 Sampler. This column covered 1928-1938, the Library's first ten years. It included information on how the library was started, its first location, staffing, what people were reading, and events taking place in Columbia Heights and the world during this decade. E. Adult Reading Program: During December, I designed the reading log, prize entry, book review and registrations forms for the 2003 adult reading program, "Celebrate Books". Signs were also designed and posted to promote the program, which will begin on Monday, January 6th. I purchased the prizes for this program from Costco, Barnes & Noble and Upstart. F. Booklists: To coordinate with the library's yearlong anniversary celebration I polled the staff for their favorite books. Seventy-five books were selected from their lists and made into a series of three booklists to accompany the adult reading program. The booklists series is called "Celebrate 75 Books", 75 "top picks" recommended by the staff of the Columbia Heights Public Library. IV. Miscellaneous: . Ordered supplies . Completed withdrawing shelf list cards from the November list ofwithdrawns . Prepared copy for the January 2003 Library newsletter . Posted New York Times Best Seller List . Conducted a walk thru with Fidelity . Prepared copy for Heights Happenings . Displayed a bulletin board commemorating the Library's 75th anniversary . Ordered bookmarks for distribution MMK/jms
