Rebecca Loader Mary Kloss Operational Report, November 2002 November 22,2002 Programs: Friends ofthe Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. They voted to accept the changes made to their by-laws. Rita Norberg, Gloria Tarmann, and Nancy Rathbun volunteered to work at the Barnes & Noble Fundraiser. Rita, Nancy, Betty Robbins, Rose Corbett, and Margaret Anderson volunteered to work at the Open House on December 2. Several of the Friends read Hatchet for the One Book Project. After the meeting, they decorated a box for Project Bookshelf. Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. Nancy Rathbun and Gloria Tarmann spent two hour on Thursday, November ih folding, addressing, and stamping invitations for our Community Reception. At Home Service: I selected materials and arranged delivery for four "at home" patrons. These were delivered by Sandi Engquist. Bulk Loans: I prepared bulk loans for Heights Manor and Parkview Villa and delivered them on Wednesday, November 6th Gigi Chollett from Columbia Village (Crestview) contacted me to begin a bulk delivery. I sent an organization card application and policy sheet to her on Friday, November 22nd with delivery scheduled to begin in January 2003. Adopt-A-Shelf: Five people have applied for the Adopt-A-Shelfprogram and donated a total of 1112 hours to this project since it began in October. One of the volunteers is a student from the Alternative Learning program who will receive extra credit for participating. Collection development: Audio books on compact discs and cassettes: My recent orders for audio books on cassette and compact disc are being received. If there is money remaining in general supplies, an order for audio/cd cases will be placed in December. Projects and goals Book display: The display of new cookbooks continued throughout the month and was well received. School tours: I conducted an "introductory library class and tour" for Level I and for Level III ESL classes from NEI. 75th Anniversary Celebration: I prepared a Patron of the Month Certificate and Guest Book, and recruited 8 volunteers for the Open House. I went to Anchor Paper to purchase the envelopes for the invitations and helped the friends with addressing them. I also requested staff members submit a list of titles they would recommend for inclusion in a booklist entitled "75 Books Recommended by the Library Staff'. Miscellaneous: Revised my section of the seasonal plan. Ordered supplies and prepared purchase requisitions. Completed withdrawing cards from all withdrawn sheets I have. Added photos to our albums. Clipped newspaper articles on the library and added them to our scrapbook. Participated in the Barnes & Noble fundraiser. Prepared copy for the December Library Sampler. Conducted a walk thru with Fidelity. Posted the New York Times Best Seller List. Sent out our library newsletter to ACL and City Staff.
