COLLECTION
A. Weare in the process of completing book orders for 2002 and preparing to place
orders as soon as the budget will allow in January.
B. I hope to begin collection development in the easy picture book collection in
December. I anticipate that this project will continue throughout 2003. We
might want to consider storing some of our little used picture book titles until we
have access to a new building.
III. PROJECTS
A. The Barnes and Noble fundraiser was held on November 23 at the Har Mar
Barnes and Noble at 2100 Snelling Avenue in Roseville. Staff developed flyers,
posters, recommended purchase lists, and issued news releases for the event.
Kelly Olson, Nancy Soldatow, Mary Kloss, Rebecca Loader, and myself
volunteered to staff the fundraiser table along with volunteers from the Friends
of the Library, Library Board of Trustees, City Council, and the Columbia
Heights Royalty. Funds raised were donated to the Library for programs and
servIces.
B. Children's Department staffhas been preparing for the Community Reception to
be held on December 3. Children's Clerk, Kelly Olson prepared and printed
invitations for mailing, programs for the evening, nametags for participants, and
signs for use throughout the building. News releases and PSAs were sent to area
press.
C. The first Columbia Heights Public Library Foundation fundraiser "Come Home
to the Heights for the Holidays" is the final major project of 2002. This program
will be held at Heights Theatre on December 15 with shows at 2:00 p.m. and
6:00 p.m. Staff prepared flyers and posters for distribution within the building
and aided in the preparation of a news release and material for the evening's
program. Staff and Library trustees requested donations from area businesses to
offset mailing expenses and provide refreshments for the event.
D. The Library's WEB page is now complete and will be available on-line by
December 3. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Library Page, Alicia Cermak
who designed the site. The WEB site includes information on the history of the
library, the newly formed foundation, and upcoming events related to the
Library's 75th Anniversary. The Library WEB page will be accessible from the
City's existing cite.
IV. STAFF
A. Children's Department staff has been extremely busy the last month preparing for the
major events listed above. In addition to those preparations, pages have been mending
magazines (both children's and adults), processing incoming materials, putting up displays
and taking down displays.
