I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The air conditioning units turned on 10/7 and had to be shut off at the breakers.
B. Daleo performed the annual roof inspection 10/10. This preventative maintenance occurs
every fall.
e. Mary conducted a walk-through with Fidelity Cleaners 10/10.
D. Orkin performed routine maintenance 10/15.
E. Honeywell responded to a call about the HV AC 10/16.
F. Heights Electric changed out the batteries in the emergency lights and checked the
emergency doors' alarms 10/17.
G. Citywide Lock repaired a lock on the downstairs door alarm 10/21.
H. The floors in the Activity Room were waxed 10/22.
I. The windows were cleaned 10/25.
II. COLLECTION
A. The last music on compact disc order has been placed.
B. Sister Cities International donated a copy of a compact disc entitled, "Images of Poland" by
Tadeusz Majewski for the circulating collection.
e. The shelflist cards are all caught up as of 10/30. Jeanine, Cristy and Mindy have worked on
this project.
III. EQUIPMENT
A. As part of the City's migration to GASB accounting practices, Finance is reviewing all
departments' fixed assets lists and controlled assets lists. A rough draft of the proposed
policy governing inventory of all equipment has been submitted to the Division Heads for
comments. The Library's list had one item that had to be re-inventoried. This project will
continue throughout 2003 as the procedure is set and a City-wide database is developed.
B. The VCR attached to the cable channel monitor broke 10/22. Linda Magee arranged for a
VCR to be loaned to the Library until a replacement can be purchased.
e. Schindler performed routine maintenance on the elevator 10/29.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Ten sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month.
B. The Sister Cities group put up a display for Polish/American month 10/1.
e. Mary conducted two introductory tours for classes from the high school and one for an ESL
class from NEI.
D. Lori Roger set up a 4-H display in the Children's Department 10/3.
E. Preparations for the 75th anniversary celebration continue. Alicia Cermak, Library Page and
student at NEI, has volunteered to set up a web page for the event. The first webmasters
meeting was held 10/4.
F. The Friends had an evening meeting at Keys Cafe 10/7.
G. Two Headstart groups attended special programs 10/9.
H. The bulk loan to the schools went out 10/10.
I. "When Knights Were Bold," a medieval program, was held at Huset Park 10/12.
J. Teen Read Week was celebrated 11/14-11/19.
K. The Library Foundation Board met 10/22 with one member absent. Bob Streetar, Columbia
Heights Community Development Director, gave a presentation on the process of re-
developing a site.
1. The Adopt-a-Shelf program has four volunteers currently participating.
M. Marsha presented a program to four sections of the High School's Child Guidance class
10/23.
V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM
A. Five circulation pc's were installed 10/29 to replace the Library's last five dumb terminals.
This completes the hardware necessary for the circulation system to migrate to a client-
server platform.
VI. STAFF
A. The proposed 2003 pay schedule for part-time Library employees has been submitted to
Human Resources. All City proposed part-time raises will go to a City Council Meeting in
November for approval.
B. Becky attended the Library Operation Council Meeting at ACL 10/3.
e. Jeanine trained all the pages in mending magazines the week of 10/7. The pages have
started mending the periodical collection at the letter "a" and will continue through the list of
titles.
D. Cristy Tombarge completed her first six-months working as the Library Aide.
E. Becky attended the Public Service Meeting at ACL 10/10.
F. Marsha met with the Media Specialists 10/15 to discuss cooperative programs, the Barnes &
Noble Fundraiser, and the 75th Anniversary.
G. Marsha attended the Children's Services meeting at Northtown 10/24.
H. The staff judged the Fire posters 10/25.
I. Jeanine celebrated 16 years of employment with the City.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 10/2.
