Friends: The Friends of the Library met at the library on Monday, September 9, at 1 :00 p.m. with co-president Nancy Rathbun presiding. They discussed their upcoming evening dinner meeting scheduled for Monday, October 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Keys Restaurant in Spring Lake Park. The current Friend's by-laws were read and proposed changes made because of new meeting times and dues increase. The proposed change will be voted on at the November meeting. I presented information on the new volunteer program, Adopt-A-Shelf, upcoming Barnes & Noble fundraiser, and open house in December to kick off our 75th anniversary celebration. Later in the month, I sent each member an invitation to the October dinner meeting and enclosed with it the proposed changes to the by-laws and an information sheet on the Adopt-A-Shelfprogram. Only one Friend was interested in participating in Adopt-A-Shelf. B. At home service: I selected and processed four requests for "at Home Service" which were delivered by Connie Carlson. C. Bulk Loans: I selected, processed, and delivered bulk loans to Heights Manor and Parkview Villa on Wednesday, September 4. II. Collection develovment: A. Audio/cd books: I continued working on my order for books-on-tape and books on compact disc. This order is not completed. III. Proiects and floals: A. PIN # brochure: The PIN # brochure I designed was printed and placed in the librarylbrochure drawer. B. ESL/GED information: I contacted the Metro North Adult Education office and requested information brochures on their ESL and GED classes. They sent a supply of each, which I placed in the library card/brochure drawer. C. Book display: I organized a display of hunting books for the display board. To accompany this display I ordered 20 copies of the 2002 Minnesota Hunting and Trapping Regulations from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. D. Adopt-A-Shelf: I wrote ajob description for the Adopt-A-Shelfvolunteer program. This volunteer program was introduced at the September Friends meeting and will be included in the October Library newsletter and upcoming City Newsletter. E. School tours: On September 11 and 24 at the library, I met with the Life Skills class from the Columbia Heights High School. IV. Miscellaneous: . Ordered numerous library and office supplies, including light bulbs, calendars, and CPU racks. . Sent library newsletters to City and ACL staff. . Prepared copy for the October library newsletter. . Prepared copy for the winter edition of Heights Happenings. . Picked up copies of the St. Paul phone directories from City Hall. . Posted New York Times Best Seller List. . Conducted a walk thru with Fidelity. . Added books to the COH-NEW displays. . Updated homebound records. . Supervised staff on Sept. 12, 13, 14, and 27 while Becky was on vacation. MMK/jms
