Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: September operational report DATE: September 30, 2002 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Public works changed light bulbs, tightened the handrail in the interior stair well, tried to unclog a drain, and put up a new sign in the exterior stair well 9/11. B. Mary conducted a walk-through with Fidelity Cleaners 9/12. C. Olson Plumbing repaired the basement kitchen sink 9/18. D. Honeywell checked the boiler and prepared the system for the heating season 9/19. E. The windows were washed 9/24. II. COLLECTION A. The Large Print rotation within the County occurred 9/25. B. Midwest video defaulted on a large order placed with them. The order has been re-submitted to Baker & Taylor Entertainment and Library Video Company for completion. C. Progress continues on the inventory. Four drawers of adult materials remain with outstanding requests. D. The adult paperback order was sent to Baker & Taylor. E. The 2003 Fodor's travel guide order is in process. F. The reference weeding project is complete. III. EQUIPMENT A. The lid of the recycling container was broken 9/14, and the entire bin had to be replaced. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Board met 9/3 with all members present. B. The Friends met 9/9 with eight members present. C. Tours for three groups from the High School were held 9/11,9/17 and 9/25. D. The first bulk loan to the schools was delivered 9/12. E. The scheduled visits by Immaculate Conception School classes started the week of 9/16. F. Kelly staffed the Library's table at the Valley View open house 9/19. G. The October Board Meeting was held 9/30 with all members present. The meeting adjourned to re-convene with the City Council as a budget hearing for the proposed 2003 Library budget. H. Preparations for the 75th Anniversary year of celebration are moving along. Staff assignments have been made, and plans for the 12/3/02 open house are progressing. The first three months' special programs will be included in the next issue of Heights Happenings. V. AUTOMATED CIRCULATION SYSTEM A. The next phase of the Automated Circulation System upgrade to an Integrated Library System has started. The City Council approved the purchase and installation of five pc circulation workstations at their 9/23 meeting. All dumb terminals from the original automated circulation system will be gone after this installation. Depending on the date of the hardware arrival, the installation should be done between late October and mid- November. VI. STAFF A. Becky met with Mary Caven, Assistant Director of Anoka County Library, 9/15 about the Twin Cities One Book project. B. Mary celebrated her 24th year of working for the City. C. Marsha met with Tom and Dave at the Heights Theatre 9/18 to discuss the December fundraiser. D. Becky helped grade the Police Officer essay tests 9/20. E. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 9/26. F. Marsha met with Jack Kubitz of Children's Press on 9/30. G. Two review classes were held for the pages: phone etiquette (Marsha) and library cards (Kelly). H. Becky and Jeanine spent considerable time this month on the preparation of the detail budget book, which is used in the City Council/Library Board budget hearing. VII. MISC A. Delivery of materials within the County changed to Tuesday- Thursday-Saturday the week of 9/3. B. Saturday hours changed to 10/00 - 4:00 on 9/7. C. A MELSA survey was conducted 9/14. D. A stolen purse was found in the book drop 9/22 and turned over to the Police. E. The Library Board approved the 2003 Holiday Schedule at their 9/3 meeting.
