I. PROGRAMS
A. OUTREACH I had the opportunity to do storytelling sessions for the District 13 Summer Special
education program classes at Highland Elementary. This is the first time the Library has been asked to
participate in this program in its entirety. The Storytelling sessions were well received by the students
and I was able to promote the reading clubs and received endorsements from the teachers for the
programs. Summer reading programs were designed for students like these who might be in need of
support and encouragement when it comes to reading.

July but we consistently averaged nearly 25 children at each session.

C. SUMMER READING CLUBS our registration for summer reading clubs is holding strong though
we have had a drop in registration in the Minnesota Reading program this year. I think that the lower
registration counts can be contributed directly to the construction on Central Ave, which I think has
deterred many people from using the facility.

D. BMX Bike demonstration was held in the at the east end ofHuset park on July 29th. This program
was cancelled earlier this season due to rain and rescheduled for July 29th. I believe that we lost a
number of participants due to rescheduling but it couldn't be helped.
II. COLLECTION
A. INVENTORY The Children's Department began inventory of the J Non Fiction and completed
the first shelf check. We will begin the second shelf check next week. We have since progressed
through the Easy nonfiction (up to E600) and with the help of the Children's Department Aide, Cristy
Tombarge, we have begun to inventory the Easy picture books as well. Children's Department Clerk
Kelly Olson is working on the label changes for all sections, checking all incoming agency requests
against the shelf1ist and aiding the Children's Librarian in collection development of the J Non Fiction.
We will be starting collection development of the easy section within the next couple of weeks. I expect
to have completed inventory by the end of September with collection development continuing until the
end of the year.
III. PROJECTS
A. SERVICE TO AREA SCHOOLS will begin in August. I have prepared a tentative schedule for
Bulk Loan deliveries and Classroom visits. I am waiting to receive copies of the school year
calendar before finalizing the schedule.
B. September is Library Card Sign Up Month. Bulletin boards will feature the ALA campaign
"Get Carded At The Library". Pages Nick Olberding, Ramon Gomez, and Ben Pressler have
done a great job on the graphic illustrations for the bulletin boards. I intend to feature this
promotion in the school open house visits at the end of August.
C. Preparations are underway for the Fall Storytime Sessions, National Children's Book Week, and
Holiday Storytime.
D. The Library Director's power point presentation was completed and samples of flyers to
accompany the presentation have been designed.
E. We have been relabeling all shelves in accordance with requirements put forth by ADA. This
project is complete through the non-fiction with all fiction shelving remaining.
IV. STAFF
A. Pages have been busy working on the inventory, bulletin boards, and shelf labeling, along with
shelf reading and shelving.
B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge spent time aiding the Director in the power point presentation,
printing the Sampler newsletter, aiding in the inventory of the collection, and aiding in the
receipt of book orders.
C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson aided in the preparation of the flyer to accompany the power point
presentation, placed and received numerous book orders, prepared final copy of the Sampler
newsletter, and aided in the inventory of the collection.
