HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report from Marsha To: From: Subject: Date: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director Marsha Tubbs, Children's Librarian Operational Report July 2002 July 30, 2002 I. PROGRAMS A. OUTREACH I had the opportunity to do storytelling sessions for the District 13 Summer Special education program classes at Highland Elementary. This is the first time the Library has been asked to participate in this program in its entirety. The Storytelling sessions were well received by the students and I was able to promote the reading clubs and received endorsements from the teachers for the programs. Summer reading programs were designed for students like these who might be in need of support and encouragement when it comes to reading. SUMMER READING CLUBS our registration for summer reading clubs is holding strong though we have had a drop in registration in the Minnesota Reading program this year. I think that the lower registration counts can be contributed directly to the construction on Central Ave, which I think has deterred many people from using the facility. This program was cancelled earlier this season due to rain and rescheduled for July 29th. I believe that we lost a number of participants due to rescheduling but it couldn't be helped. II. COLLECTION A. INVENTORY The Children's Department began inventory of the J Non Fiction and completed the first shelf check. We will begin the second shelf check next week. We have since progressed through the Easy nonfiction (up to E600) and with the help of the Children's Department Aide, Cristy Tombarge, we have begun to inventory the Easy picture books as well. Children's Department Clerk Kelly Olson is working on the label changes for all sections, checking all incoming agency requests against the shelf1ist and aiding the Children's Librarian in collection development of the J Non Fiction. We will be starting collection development of the easy section within the next couple of weeks. I expect to have completed inventory by the end of September with collection development continuing until the end of the year. III. PROJECTS A. SERVICE TO AREA SCHOOLS will begin in August.
